"Hoffy isn't the guy for Fullback" - Hodges

Ex-Bulldog Price wants Hoffman at Belmore

Canterbury great Steve Price has called on Brisbane to clear the way for Josh Hoffman's move to Belmore.

Hoffman is reportedly keen on a switch to the Bulldogs, with the Broncos' acquisition of Ben Barba leaving him on the outer and unlikely to play his favoured fullback role at the club in 2014.

But with one year left on his contract at Red Hill, Broncos officials have so far been reluctant to let Hoffman move south.

Brisbane have been accused of double standards after Barba was released by the 'Dogs on compassionate grounds, while the Broncos are also believed to be interested in having 2015 signing Anthony Milford leave Canberra a year early and come to the club next season.

Price, who played 222 games over 11 seasons at Belmore, said Brisbane should let Hoffman go.

"It is a real hard one," Price said.

"When you sign a contact you commit to a place but things have changed a fair bit since he signed that contract and obviously if they sign Milford, he (Hoffman) is definitely not going to be there after next year.

"So you have to see a bit of balance ...

"If you have an opportunity for a kid to go somewhere and commit to somewhere for three or four years you would almost let him do that."

With the two teams scheduled for a fiery round one clash next season, former Queensland and Australia representative Price said he could understand if Brisbane kept Hoffman in order to maintain depth, but he encouraged Canterbury to be dogged in their chase for the Kiwi representative.

"I would like to see Josh Hoffman go there personally, I have got a really good wrap on Josh," Price said at a promotional event for Auckland's NRL Nines.

"I think the Broncos were a lot better team when he was playing fullback at the end of the season and they were winning. And they almost made the semis pretty much through that run they had at the back end of the year.

"I'm not getting into a debate about what the Broncos do or don't do, but Benny Barba is a fantastic fullback, I don't see how playing him somewhere else is going to benefit the Broncos so he is probably going to play fullback.

"Josh did a great job on the wing but the Bulldogs are looking for a fullback and I think he would be a great fit.

This is just my opinion, but I honestly think that Bulldogs management are encouraging current and past doggies players to comment/post shit in the media about us refusing to give Hoffman the fullback spot and to bring him to belmore. It's becoming ridiculous

And doesn't hoffman have 2 years left on his contract?? Terrible journalism

Agree, imagine if we did that, there would be calls for us to be kicked out of the comp.

So just so we can get a clear point of view in regards to Sydney media.

Teenager wants a release, has a clause, suffering from homesickness and has a father with a heart condition = disgraceful, both player and broncos should be hung

24 year old, no release clause or family circumstances, has cracked the sads because club refuses to put up with a second rate fullback any longer = clear the way boys, it is reprehensible for you not to release him

I understand what you're saying about the media bias but you shouldn't compare the Milford and Hoffman situations, completely different IMO. Let's not forget that the Bulldogs released Barba when legally they had no obligation to, I believe we should follow suit and release Hoffman as well and therefore square up the ledger. Why? Because we're not a shithouse club like the Raiders.

BTW, that Hoffman interview certainly didn't erase any speculation that he wants out and he must think we're all idiots (or he's an idiot) if he didn't realize those social media pictures would cause a stir.

Don't get me wrong I want us to release Hoffman, I'm just having a laugh at the ridiculous attitude of the Sydney media. In regards to barba the bulldogs made out like they wanted to keep barba but were doing the right thing, whereas we now know that half the squad wanted him gone. Mind you if Hoffman keeps this rot up it may end up the same at the broncos

I think he's trying to leave, but wants to avoid awkwardness with the fans if he is forced to stay.

He didn't say he hasn't asked for a release. He said that he never said he was leaving the Broncos... It's a big difference.

The information I have is that there was a release request from his agent. 1910, I'm not sure you whether you can confirm this or not, but if you can...

No he and Hogan haven't.

Interesting. Cheers 1910

Like I said, Magic is full of shit.

Excuse my ignorance but who's magic

I couldn't care less what the GH thinks about it tbh, but someone with responsibilities is telling porkies out there...

don't know why clubs and players don't sue the papers for misrepresentation
