How much is too much for Payne? The saga continues...

What is the maximum per year you would offer Haas?

IF this is true, and of course I have the same doubts I always have with Badel articles, this really just sounds like his manager trying to constantly find holes in a very good offer from the Broncs to find something that would try and not be the obvious just want more money angle. But as I say, I am just humouring an article that almost certainly has no basis in reality.

Yeah this, like someone pointing out minor flaws in a house in order to justify a low-ball offer. "The light fittings are starting to yellow, I just can't see myself being able to live with that. Take $50k off the price and you have yourself a deal".

post career opportunities, help him transition life post-football.
Sure...he can clean the shit houses.

Its about all his tiny brain could handle.......

It's a pretty slapdash article. I wouldn't say the gist of it wouldn't be true, but you could generically overlay it with any player.

But on further thought, the retirement career path twist actually is highly relevant in the context of staying in Rugby League on less money. This might actually be the ultimate clincher, and it's really the role of your mate PVL to sell that one to him.

The career after retiring request at Haas’s age sounds like a way for his manager to continue milking commission from him for eternity. Why else would a 23 year old be looking into that already.

If it's a long term contract like 6 years or more it makes sense. If it's a 3 year deal it makes no sense.

If any of it is true anyway.

TLDR.

Goes on to say the club is confident they can deliver the first two offering him 1m. Bulldogs, Dragons and Tigers apparently ready to offer 1.1m but he's not interested in going to a shit club.

If the club can deliver the third item, Haas will re-sign.
Quotes from his manager.
“I know several big clubs are keen, everyone has to look at their rosters, but Payne is happy at the Broncos,” his agent Ahmad Merhi said last week.

“Last year when he looked at a release, the Broncos weren’t a finals team, but now they are a serious contender. “If I get an offer from the Broncos I can’t refuse, then we would definitely sign before November 1, but right now it’s in his best interests to wait until November 1.

“Payne is committed to Brisbane and his heart and soul is with them right now.”

That article is the biggest load of nothing bullshit I have seen all year. A Badel classic. Of fucking course big money players want those things, you aren't notifying anyone of anything, Peter.

1.1 Million would be an insult to Haas if he went to the Tigers given what Brooks is on.

Honestly, if those were his three demands, he would have already re-signed. We are the best club to offer those three things and we would. 1 million a year for say 10 years for Haas is a no brainer but have it without a rachet clause. Also put in something around he can't agitate for a release. This is a risk then for both parties but given how good he is, that would be a risk worth taking for both parties.
100% this.

Don't believe a single word out of his managers mouth, especially since seeing that commercial he did.
I also have the strongest urge to tell Payne to go **** himself demanding anything from a club he won a spoon with.
Motherfucker owes us if anything.

Of course we should meet his demands though, so long as that is the damn end of it.

Pardon my French.

So what if he signs for 5 years and we have a poor year in among that? Is he going to have another sook and want out?

If he's manager said any of that he would have been quoted ... yet the only quotes Badel used are from a week ago and there certainly weren't any "demands" included in them

I dont like it. Of course, its only coming from Badel so take it with a pinch of salt. Its a ridiculous request because as a club we always try to look after our players after retirement. If its true, it just sounds to me like another thing to hold us to ransom for ( again, its only coming from Badel so far ) from his management. It wouldnt surprise me if it was true, but at the moments i have my doubts because his management are stupid enough to say those sort of things in public.

We would be mad to guarantee any player anything after retirement at this stage. He could mature and become a great role model for future players, but there is also the destabilising effect he can and has brought to the club with his behaviour and management. Those are talks you have as a player is winding down his career, not one who isnt even in his prime yet.

So, AAP are reporting his manager as saying the deal hinges on what we can offer him post football. If this is true, surely we can wrap him up long term. Unless Uncle Nick offers him a car dealership…

but unlike uncle nick it will have salary cap ramifications for us if it goes in the contract.

there are so many different area's we could offer him a post footy career, we just can't put it in a contract.

maybe we can get all our former players that still have roles at the club in for a meeting, walk Payne through, then point and wink

Funny how this is the same phrase that Brandon Smith blurted out about what convinced him to go to the Roosters, that they would 'look after you' after football, the chooks are deep in this, they've been in his ear since he agitated wanting more money and then a release last year.

The NRL really should be over this...........

Surely no club can actually promise him something in a playing contract?

Also, the bloke is 23yo, he could have 10 years left and this contract won't be for that long. What happens if he signs with another club at the end of this contract?

None of this makes logical sense. It's been a shit show since the start and will continue to be if this week is any indication. If he and his manager want the noise to stop the best thing they can do is SHUT THEIR FUCKING MOUTHS. All I can say is it better not derail our season or I do not want him at the club after this year, ever, full fucking stop I don't care how good he is.
