Howard approached to run the game

Howard only needed 11 years to wreck Australia, how long would he take to kill RL?

Top notch bait!

He has a proven ability to bring people together

Are you kidding? Howard was one of the most divisive Prime Ministers this country has ever had! A lot of people loved him and a lot of people hated him.

lol. Based on that, Rudd is right up there too.

I think perhaps what Burg means is that he had the ability to bring people together and get decisions made and actions taken, despite opposition. He was actually quite shrewd at compromising to get things in.

He seemed to be falling down in that regard towards the end though, with Work Choices and his "succession plan".

However as others have said, whether or not he'd be right for the NRL Commission is entirely dependent on what format the commission takes, who is involved, what its responsibility is and how it's meant to work. Without knowing that it's idiotic for anyone to comment on Howard's involvement, positive or negative.

I certainly don't think his "old ways" would matter, they wouldn't bring him in to come up with new ideas.

What about everything else Rudd has done. Except give money away.

Shall I get a picture of a tumbleweed?

He did apologise to the mythical stolen generation.

Shame about the stolen Generation of electrical goods.

Anyways.... off to backtrack to the line.

IMO Peter Beattie would be a better choice for it. Who here really wants some toff-arsed Sydneysider who has spent more time in his life wearing a Wallabies tracksuit than watching league??

Me.

Why does such a position need a former politician anyway? [icon_shru

Agree Matt, I'd be just as happy with a well known businessman, a sports administrator from another field, or hell, even a former high serving military person. What I DON'T want is someone who's been involved in rugby league administration for 30 years and is too ingrained with the "old" way of doing things.

New blood is needed.

Yes but that's cause you have a boner for John Howard.

I think he could do a decent job, but there are surely better candidates for the position.

Who said they were specifically chasing an ex-politician?

Is it that hard for people to think that maybe they thought of him as the best man for the job, based on... being the best man for the job?

Hard to imagine...

In reality you'd imagine the NRL Commission's job will be to coordinate the ARL, QRL, NSWRL, CRL and NRL competition all run by different people with different agendas.

You'd think a politician would be ideal for that role!

I hope Channel 7 puts real pressure on 9 to put a good bid in for RL Rights.
