Hunts Kicking game.

I think he's a capable kicker, but he's let down by the fact that he's basically our only in-play kicker.

Every single set it's up to him to put in the kick on the last, or whenever. I think it's definitely affecting him and it makes us much more predictable to other teams.

Milford and Macca both need to step up and take some of the pressure off.

He needs to take a leaf of of Cronks book and just practice, practice, practice his kicking.the rest of his halfback play is very good, his kicking game is nowhere near that level.

He can keep missing field goals if he scores/sets up matchwinning tries imo

I think Hunt has a few technical issues with his kicking, as most leaguies do. The most important distance the ball will travel is from your hand to your foot. Also it's easy to get into the habit of watching your destination rather than watching the ball onto your foot. Both relatively easy fixes . Even moylans field goal last night, his release was way too high , the point of contact ends up being a lottery.

After he missed that field goal, he started second guessing himself.

There was 1 or 2 occasions after the missed, we it looked like he was going to have a shot, but thought better of it and ran it at the last moment.

McGuire mentioned in the MOTM interview that Hunt's miss isn't a one off. Basically implied he has a problem hitting them and that he regularly slices them.

Hunt's kicking game is sod ordinary. Watching (cough, cough) Pearce (retch) and Maloney (aargh) last night (and Friend) kick .... now that was a good kicking game.

Kicking is maybe the one thing that is holding Hunt back from the top tier of halves. As posted above about Cronk, yes, practise practise practise.

I can only imagine the improvement in our attack once our kicking game improves to where it should be.

I've seen him put in some really good kicks. I actually think his biggest problem is kick selection when in an attacking position.

Every time we get into the 40 he puts up a bomb. Good option when you have a winger like Yow Yeh ... But when you have our current wingers, you need to try other options.

My thoughts exactly foordy. IMHO hunts kicking is good - very good but he hasn't mastered when to do certain kicks.

And he knew it. He was filthy with himself. For mine, it was one of those ones where it's almost too easy and you just screw it. Thankfully he made up for it. He stuffed his disappointment deep down and let it fester until the right time and unleashed it as an Oates-seeking missile of a short pass. Yeah. Still buzzing.

The last five minutes of that game sums up hunt and why I so glad we have him.

He hadn't had his best game all round and then stuffs up the field goal so terribly, yet has the patience and confidence to back himself and run it on the last and send Oates over for the match winner

A lot of halves (including 'the great' DCE would have gone into their shell in that situation but hunt as he has done many times before demanded the ball so he could fix up his mess

The other major problem is every kick he does he is under heaps of pressure because the opposition know he will do 80% of our kicking.

If Milford and Macca took on a greater share of the kicking duties, it should relieve some of the pressure on Hunt and we should see his kicking improve.

I know it's unfair to compare him to these players but it's not like he's the first half to do the vast majority of kicking for team; Thurston, Cronk, Lockyer, Soward, Johnson, Reynolds.

They all seem to manage great kicking games even when being the predictable option so to me that's not a good enough excuse. It's something he and milford really need to work on.

Missing that field goal wasn't first grade standard and he's shanked enough to prove it wasn't a one off poor kick. The try was a great end to the game but we were set for a field goal and he backed out and went for the try because he was shaken by his lack of ability.

How a half as good as him can't pin field goals from there is bewildering. Most 15 year olds would slot that under pressure.

His kicking game is occasionally good. It can also be downright awful. Let's not forget how he almost lost us the game against the Roosters before he won it, with a few kicks out on the full and a poor field goal attempt. In fact he's kicked out on the full a few times this year.

It's really an area he has to work on.

Thing is though with Cronk, he was never a natural half back. He has through a lot of training, discipline and practice manufactured himself into one of the best. Hunt could easily do it with his kicking game. The rest of his game is fine. He just needs to practice kicking into areas like Cronk does. Cronk isn't that creative with his kicks imo, he is just very structured with them and the team knows where they are going to land.

I think Hunt's biggest issue is control. He's an off the cuff type of player, capable of anything in clutch situations (see chooks game and yesterday), but I have not seen him take a game by the scruff and take the adversary out of it, like Soward did last night for most of the game.
We deserved the win, but were quite lucky Soward's last kick ended up giving us a 7 tackle restart, which we needed to score the winning try!

I have seen him do it once this year. Not a couple in that game or multiple times this year. . Anyone else know of other times? ?

And apart from field goals and a couple dodgy ones here and there. . It's not actually the kicks that's the problem, it's his kick selection like a few posters have said already. Some of his 3rd and 4th tackle kicks are brilliant. . Just kicking on the 5th bothers him. He'll get there. Every week i feel the team improves on things from the previous.

When Milford played five-eighth for the Raiders, how much did he kick, and were his kicks any good?

Sounds to me like that is what it's all about.
