Hunts Kicking game.

He has kicked more NRL field goals than Hunt.

So has Ian Hindmarsh!

Regardless of how shit Hunt is, teams will still rush out to pressure him. I'd love to see Macca milk this by dummying, stepping out of dummy half and then just slotting it over.

He did kick it from dummy half.

+1, if our forwards can lift in tight games keeping the opposition out of range, then we surely should trust our running game more than our kicking game.

Hunt has done it a few times, people complain that he can't take control of a game but damn can the kid stand up when we need him.

Especially if we are looking for the 6+1 advantage or if there's still plenty of time (like on Friday) for the game to run.

Penrith were cooked and left us 6 minutes to steal it back.

I think if we are ever in the situation of needing a field goal, we should have Nikorima passing to McCullough from dummy half and McCullough attempting the shot. From what I've seen McCullough strikes the ball well. He has good timing and composure to be able to land the one point in pressure situations.

On a side note, surprisingly Cameron Smith has only kicked one field goal in his career, and it came last season. Just thought that was pretty astonishing.

One day, Hunt will kick the most unbelievable field goal to win us the game and it will leave us all speechless.

It may not be for years and he will continue to suck, but one day he will do it.

Against melbourne! Would be sweet

I like Hunt, but his kicking game as a half back is becoming a liability. It's nowhere near good enough. If he doesn't work on it we really need to look at other options.

His kicking was fine tonight! Wtf.... Easy to be outshon by Thurston tbh

Honestly, I thought some of his kicks were good but our chase was terrible.

Look at how good the Cowboys kick chase was. It was a lot better than ours.

Cows hounded Hunt every kick he had tonight.

Thurston got to run 10m before decided if he'd kick or pass on tackle 5.

Hunt needs to improve but I feel right now it's Milford and Macca we need to do more. Until Hunt stops getting hounded every kick he has we won't be likely to win the kicking battle.

His kicks rarely put anyone under pressure and he rarely creates tries with his kicks. Every other aspect of his game is that of an elite half back. His kicking isn't even close.

We were still working out our half most of the time. Hunt has to kick for metres rather than hoping we'll regather the ball. He bollocksed the shorter range kicking though.
Can you learn kicking? Its hard yo imagine Hunt getting to where he needs to be regarding kicking.

Cooper Cronk suggests you can. There's nothing innately impressive about Cronk, but his discipline and mastery of everything simple is incredible.

Also look at Cam Smith this year. He's kicking it far better than he has in his career. That's mostly goalkicking, but I mean, practice makes perfect.

You can definitely learn kicking, it's lots of practice, it's not really a natural talent like speed.

That's why I asked. I think you can have a natural talent for it but the guys who are good at it would bave been good at long before 1st grade. Hunt better get good at it soon or he'll come under pressure from our favourite youngsters. (Who get mentioned every day here).

Apparently Thurston used to spend a lot of time growing up kicking balls into bins..

Or was it coke bottles?

Either way, he is the kicker he is today because of plenty of practice.

Apparently Hunt stopped working with Alfie with his kicking.. I think he needs to have more sessions with him.

There's no doubt Hunt needs to improve his kicking, but in some ways I think he's getting too harshly judged.

He's quite clearly not a good enough kicker to take all our kicks the way JT or Soward do. But is Hunt really any more to blame than Milford? Not every team has a half who kicks like JT, but for the most part, those who don't share the responsibility. Hunt isn't really capable of taking every kick and is being asked to. It's an area for him to improve, but as a team, I don't think his improvement is the one that solves the problem.

Well he definitely got some drop kicking practice tonight.
I was wondering if we would repeat letting the opposing side make easy metres like we did the Panthers. I was surprised Soward didnt force us to drop out a lot more last week and knew that Thurston forces us to drop out often enough without the easy metres.
