Israel Folau wants out... I'll show him the door.

Just a quick thought, If the AFL Signs Inglis as they have stated, should we start getting worried????
I still belive in eye for a eye, Because the AFL are laughing at us ATM, if we dont do something soon RL will be going down..
I really reckon Gary Ablett a legend of the game, as well as his uncle would be a massive low blow to Gayfl.....
BTW he would make a great fullback or five eight....
Where has the AFL hinted they will sign Inglis?
Seriously if the AFL sign Inglis........ The NRL really needs to strike back if that happens, take 2 of their best players and offer them an offer they can't refuse, **** them over, we can't let them buy every star who comes off contract, FFS they can buy every star in our game if they wanted to be ****...

What we need to realise is the AFL are targeting these guys for future recruiting purposes.

They are trying to get more islander kids playing AFL by giving them players to look up to. This is about the next 10 - 15 years and where the players are going to come from, they have laid down a direct challenge to rugby league by putting a team into the Western suburbs and they will spend what it takes to make it work.

Buying a couple of AFL stars who couldn't possibly play league would be a waste of money, they are better off increasing Origin payments to bridge the gap between the codes.
But it needs to happen soon!
AFL has enough money to buy out every NRL star who comes off contract, they have the ability to destroy the game, imagine if they also buy Slater and Inglis this year!

Where will the AFL stop in this "marketing" recruitment?

Set up a team in AFL heartland and buy out AFL stars, nah probably a silly idea, but it's frustrating as hell for me as a fan to see our best players going to AFL.

Fark your stupid, we don't want or need AFL players none of them would be tough enough to handle league anyway IMO.
Fark you're a dickhead, AFL don't need NRL players either.

The signing of Folau and Hunt on Multi- Million dollar deals suggests other wise.. I want to punch you in the face and knock some sense into you!!! [icon_shady

If Inglis went he would be one of the biggest loses the NRL has had in a very long time!

I think perhaps a chill pill or two might be in order. Note that only the two new clubs have signed one league player each, as part of sweetheart salary cap arrangements for their first couple of years. Other clubs have to abide by the cap and could not afford to pay what the new clubs have done. Unless these two become raging overnight successes in AFL, I can't see how it is going to become a flood.

Exactly, just a massive pain in the arse for the Broncos as per usual. If anything hopeefully this wakes the NRL up and they find a way to get more money in the game.

Jeba, are you suggesting the rumours might be true? You seem to have pretty good sources.

Don't get me wrong, I reckon Fevola is a funny fella, but I don't think he would have any idea what's going on in regards to AFL recruitment.

I agree but he may know about Inglis being approached by AFL or expressing intrest in playing AFL. Carlton and the Storm use the same training facilities.

My thoughts. No-one has the right to denigrate a player (employee) for obtaining a better pay deal for themselves. Neither Karmichael Hunt or Israel Folau owe any of us a reason or explanation for their actions with regard to whomever their employer may be.

Perhaps people should consider that the actions of those players stems directly from the stigma wrongfully attached to their decisions to work for different employers. In the eyes of the watchers on the sidelines, any decision each player make will offend some in some way or another. The idea that they owe us something is plainly wrong. Through my eyes both of them gave, and in Israels case continues to give, good service and value for money.

They have to deal with the demands of their suitors and media alike never being given time to make a career move at leisure,a luxury 99% take for granted. Hounded at every place with the toilet and sleep being your only option when you just want them all to shut the hell up about what ' I'm doing next year '.

Under pressure (in it's many and varied forms) from family, religious ideology, team mates, coach, trainers ,assistants, medicos, television, radio, internet, commentators, employers, codes and the court of public opinion Folau had to make his mind up when everyone else wanted him to, not necessarily when he might have chosen.

Lot going on for someone. I wish him well whatever he chooses to do.

I really like that post Huge.

It takes a lot for a man to walk away from something he's known his whole life and jump into uncharted waters. The money is a huge factor, but he's made a decision to test himself and I hope he goes well. But I support for being a true adult and making a massive life-changing decision like this.

He knew what the consequences may be, he took a risk, that's more than a lot of us have done in our lifetime and he's only 21!

Yeah, about $1 million a year.

Anyone who thinks he's doing it for anything other than the money is delusional.

+1

i watched Folau talk about his decision on the news last night. What really pissed me off is the fact he still refuses to say that he signed for the cash, still sighting a challenge as being the reason he left.

Like Coxy said, if you believe the extra 1mil+ a year didnt have anything to do with the decision then your stupid. Not that there is anything wrong with setting yourself up for life, but just say thats the reason and dont lie about it!

Yep. I'd believe he was doing it for the challenge if he was offered, say, $600K per year at the start with the carrot of earning $1 million a year 3/4 if he succeeded (ie, played X games per year or some other criteria). It would mean he's leaving League for a significant but not massive payrise initially but with huge rewards if he adapts well to the new sport and is successful.

This isn't a challenge. It isn't a gamble. It's like betting your house and life savings on a horse race but knowing you'll get your money back if you lose...
