The way history looks back on 1999 and 2002 leads to a lot of delusion. I can tell you, only one state was celebrating both those years and it certainly wasn't NSW. Especially in 2002 when they whinged enough to bring in one of the worst additions to modern Rugby League.

in 1999, it looked like Queensland actually PLAYED for the draw towards the end because they knew it meant they retained the shield. they had a few chances to take field goal shots, but if they hadve gotten one of them then NSW would have the chance to kick off and pin them in our own half. so instead, they just kept the play down NSWs half. when a draw is as good as a win, why give the opposition any chance of stealing the victory from you? in those days, to be the champion you had to beat the champion - drawing with the champion isnt good enough.

I do believe Lote Tuqiri didn't bother to try and convert the try as they knew it was already wrapped up. I'm sure if he had his time over again he would take it more seriously.

yeh i remember it got to the stage where NSW had like 1 win more or 1 more series win than us, and i was pretty devastated as that had always been the 'yeah well we're still ahead' line you could pull after a loss, while wiping away the tears lol.

but when we've won 13 of the last 18 matches, i cant see us having to pull out that line any time soon lol.
