Let see how long James Robert remain out of trouble?
Let see how long James Robert remain out of trouble?
JAMES Roberts has escaped serious punishment from the NRL, but the case against him will be kept open by the Integrity Unit.
The NRL confirmed this morning that no action will be taken against Roberts after he was accused of pulling the hair of a young woman at a Gold Coast nightclub earlier this month.
However, the Integrity Unit will keep the matter open in case any further evidence becomes available to support the assault claim.
The Integrity Unit’s investigation was hampered by the fact the owner of Love Nightlife refused to hand over CCTV footage of the alleged incident and also by a lack of witnesses.
On the evidence that was available to them, the NRL Integrity Unit said it would not be “reasonable” to take any disciplinary action against Roberts.
But they will leave the case open should anything change.
Head of the NRL Integrity Unit Nick Weeks said that they had made extensive inquiries into the matter and were disappointed the nightclub owner had refused to hand over the footage.
“We need to judge the case on the facts available to us and, at this time, there is insufficient evidence to take disciplinary action against James,” he said.
Weeks confirmed the Broncos and Roberts co-operated throughout the investigation.
The Broncos are yet to make a statement on the NRL’s findings, but it is believed Roberts could be facing an alcohol ban.
CM confirms it. NRL have given him a booze ban, will not de-register him.
I'm just going to slink out quietly and then claim my BHQ account was being looked after by Gallen's Dad...
I hope the club slap a booze ban on him
I don't think so, but it's expected the Broncos will.NRL have.
The official NRL word. The NRL Integrity Unit has determined that no action will be taken against Brisbane Broncos player James Roberts, but the matter will remain open in case any further evidence becomes available.
NRL Head of Integrity Nick Weeks said extensive inquiries had been conducted into allegations that Roberts assaulted a female patron of a Gold Coast nightclub earlier this month.
He said that, on the evidence currently available, it was not reasonable to take disciplinary action against Roberts.
Mr Weeks said it was disappointing that the nightclub operators had refused to allow the NRL to view footage from the evening in question.
"We need to judge the case on the facts available to us and, at this time, there is insufficient evidence to take disciplinary action against James," Mr Weeks said.
Mr Weeks said the Broncos and Roberts had co-operated with the Integrity Unit throughout the investigation.
Paul White has today addressed the media after player James Roberts was cleared by the NRL Integrity Unit.
White was speaking after the NRL released a statement that said no action would be taken, but the matter would remain open in case any further evidence became available.
NRL Head of Integrity Nick Weeks said extensive inquiries had been conducted and on the evidence currently available, it was not reasonable to take disciplinary action against Roberts.
White made these statements to the media and took questions after the findings has been released.
"The NRL have released the results of their investigations this morning," said White.
"Their investigations reveal the facts of the matter do not add up to the allegations that have been reported through various media organisations.
"The first question you would ask is, are we disappointed we have found ourselves in this position, and the answer is yes.
"And are we disappointed James put himself in a vulnerable position by being in a nightclub after a day out, and the answer is yes to that.
"But do the facts support the allegations in this instance? And that is a no.
"And is that enough to end a young man's career on the basis of fairness? And our position is the answer is no."
White said the club had stepped back to let the NRL run the investigation and had simply awaited their outcome, whatever that may have been.
The NRL today said the Broncos and Roberts had been co-operative throughout the investigation.
"When you open up for a full and independent investigation you are prepared for all outcomes," said White.
"What we were after was a fair and independent investigation. And we can say to our members and supporters we have done everything we can to ensure that happened.
"I had a single sourced point of contact from a member of the media last Monday afternoon. Within two hours I had passed that onto the NRL and within 12 hours they had commenced their investigation.
"We have remained supportive but distant from the investigation, as we should.
"We never pre-determined what the outcomes may be, we were prepared for all outcomes."
If he falls off the wagon, we sack him.
He most likely will.
