James Roberts Drama

Alcohol bans don't help anything. All it does is mean when they do break the rule, they go absolutely fucking stupid. I'm sure the boys are allowed a drink, but I'm surprised they're allowed to do it without other team mates around.

If the senior players don't like him, I think it's on them, not him. They're professionals, working with someone who clearly needs guidance from those very players.

I've always been a bit suss on Jimmy since we signed him... I've always that 'square peg in a round hole' feeling about him. hope it all gets sorted out soon and he can concentrate on playing bloody football

Yeah this, so much this.

We keep hearing the game is now a business, the players are professionals etc. etc. etc. Well fucking act like it then. We all have people at work we don't like and wouldn't naturally get along with - but that's what being a professional is.

Further to that, if it is the senior players that don't like him that's even worse. You have been put into a leadership positon, so lead.

While all true ... there is a big difference between having to work with someone you don't like and spending your free time with them.

I have people working under me that i don't like. I'm professional with them while working, but there is no way you would see me going out with them for drinks.

I agree that players shouldn't be holding grudges or anything like that, but if he's rocking up to training smelling like bourbon every Monday then it's a different story.

We'll just have to wait and see how the story develops and how the integrity unit handles it.

I'm not talking about their free time, I'm talking about them making him feel included in the group in general.

Self imposed alcohol bans only work if you make the decision by yourself and not just because you got into trouble

My mistake for some reason i thought you were talking about them not being with him during his drinking sessions.

The players especially the leadership group should certainly be professional and even friendly with him while undertaking official club duties. (Training, matches, official functions etc)

A bit of a generalisation there. Sometimes things like this work ,sometimes they don't. Some people get their licences suspended by a Court. Some pull their head in and don't drive, some drive anyway and pay the consequences. Roberts has been on a ban before and got through without a drama. He needs to learn from it, that's the problem.

I reckon there is every chance it was a relatively benign incident that quickly escalated through a combination of pub security roid rage cop wannabes putting someone in a choke hold and Roberts probably not wanting to be touched by said security guards.

He's difficult to put down in a tackle by 3 NRL players, I assume 3 fat security guards would have to go over the top to "control" Roberts.

All of a sudden you've got a bloke in a choke hold.

They do...but the Normanby are refusing to release the footage 

Like the alleged spitting incident. Pissing off the Broncos and Broncos fans would ruin their business plan.

Probably the best thing they've ever done. I still support starting over with that shithole.

Don't all of these places have security cameras watching everything these days?

Seems like the Normanby Hotel are refusing to release the footage. (probably because the bouncer did an illegal choker hold)

EDIT: I should read all the replies before posting.

According to Chris Garry on Twitter, we are no chance of releasing / terminating his contract and are "in for the long haul" with him.

I like it, if it's true. We should either release him or stand behind him 100%. Get your head right please Jimbo.

He's facing a 1 week ban from the NRL integrity unit according to Chris Garry.
