James Roberts signs with the Brisbane Broncos

yeah steady on. noone implicitly suggested there was a likelihood we'd lose Roberts, Mr Oldman was pretty clearly venting at the delay in formalising the arrangements, and that led to hypotheses of how backflips or contingencies might be affected

technically i dont recall the Inglis contract being formally annoucned either, but i take Foordy's point, it seemed homed and hosed and if the bloke shows up at HQ you'd think the suits at LeagueHQ could get their crap together and get their rubber stamps out

Sorry I can't agree with any of that.

It's not a done deal yet, and is Dale doesn't get a club, Bennett will be very red faced

That is what I was responding to and that was quite clearly implying there was a potential for us to loss him.

You don't remember Inglis' contract being announced because it didn't happen. Making it completely different to the Roberts scenario which deems Foordy's comment incorrect and misleading.

whatevs

i just meant that if the Bronocs havent made arrangements prior to the contract being registered and then we get salaray cap pinged isnt it = Bennett red faced

if you re-read the very post you yourself quoted with a clear thread i think you'll struggle to find any implication that we'd 'lose' anyone.. just that "Bennett will be red faced", ie there would be consequences

seems clear enough to me

same sentiment with the Inglis scenario, but technically not the same as we never signed a contract therfore had none to lodge with the NRL, but the concern remains

This article has comments (direct quotes) from Bruno Cullen about Inglis coming to the club in 2011. I also beleive the held some form of press conference.

Inglis to join Broncos next season - NRL.com

FTR, i certainly don't beleive that we will lose Roberts. But your comments that the club wouldn't announce a signing are incorrect, or maybe you have just understandably tried to block the Cullen/Henjak years from your memory.

The club is also professional enough to have learnt from their mistakes.

jeepers.. just read that article link BTW, haha Cullen what a muppet, im no 'PC' princess and good lord do I despise the Storm, but farq how can you get away with putting a quote like "..they're Mexicans.." on the official NRL website. LOL 2010..

All Cullen said was he had agreed to terms. There was never any pictures of him in Broncos gear or anything like that which is the point that I was making, but as sus says, whatevs, I know everyone knew my point but people can still try to twist it if they like.

I'm no Cullen fan but in that statement he was being sarcastic. He was making the point that they think that they are mexicans, and hated etc etc but that the Broncos don't think that of them.

It certainly was the Dark Ages that's for sure. It must have been what it is like to support the Tigers, Eels or Titans but I have PSD when it comes to those Broncos years so try not to delve too much into them for fear of what thoughts may come.

ha yeah spose.. still, you'd never hear Paul White say that amirite?

exactly LOL.. equally offensive, not at all inappropriate.. can you imagine being a fan of one of those clubs this decade?

again Paul White would never utter such words.. unless he's gone undercover onto BHQ in which case its all sweet haha

Professional enough or not, they have rules now to follow. He's here to stay, Copley will be gone.

LOL rules wut?

so if the NRL dont agree at the contract valuation

if the 3PC havent met the team cumulative criteria

if andrew G initialed the contract on his behalf....

its not sorted by any stretch as far as im concerned. the only saving grace is the organisation want him, he wants to be there, so they will liekly do whatever they have to get it sorted.

this is 21st century sport mate, rules dont mean shit if a greedy player agent can get a bigger slice elsewhere.

of course not saying there's any doubt Roberts will line up round 1, but geez it was a fair concern to express

Huh?

so if the NRL dont agree at the contract valuation- The contract would be made to whatever the NRL deems market value

if the 3PC havent met the team cumulative criteria- Not exactly sure what this even means.

if andrew G initialed the contract on his behalf....- Andrew Gee no longer works for the Broncos so I'm not sure how he would get his hands on the contract. What if fairies abduct Roberts? What if Voldermort takes over the NRL and orders he play for Manly? Why am I bothering?

You've got no idea what you're talking about do you?

Yo ucan't announce a player until 10 days after the contract is submitted. It's the very rule to STOP players backing out after the contract is done. Andrew Gee hasn't worked with the club for a while now, so maybe just be quiet for a little while, and go and read up about how it all works.

The thing that everyone is speculating on is the "fact" that we need to move Copley on to clear space. Maybe he's been given the option to move on to play first grade elsewhereas happened with Taylor. Maybe we keep both. Who knows for sure?
