Jarrod Wallace to the Titans

I'm a big fan of Chris Hill and would love him here. Just not sure he wants to come and play NRL

Thaiday is probably the key. If Maguire moved to lock then Thaiday would probably have to start at prop. If Arrow looks better at lock then Thaiday does at prop then Maguire will probably stay where he is.

Wallace seems like a decent bloke and he tried hard for us so I wish him well. His improvement in the last year or so is a credit to him but he would never have gotten that sort of money playing for us. As for where that leaves the team I'm not sure I would go buying another forward (although it would be hard to say no to Napa). Offa, Ese'ese, Pangai, Sua and Arrow have all had first grade experience this year and done well enough to say they have a bright future. Wallace leaving will put a little more pressure on them but also presents an opportunity they should be excited to take. The experience they have gained this year and with another preseason under their belts should have them ready to step up. I would much rather buy another big body in the centres and move Kahu to the wing.

Such is life.

Wallace was at a career cross-roads, he could either continue being an inconsistent bench player or he could get paid to make more of himself at a lesser club albeit one with potential.

I wish him well. I'm not about to make any predictions on what he'll become, but hopefully he continues to evolve as a player at the Titans.

As for the Broncos, it definitely creates a gap at prop forward. Specifically, they need somebody with a bit of size about them that can lend something unique to the role. The only players with those physical attributes is Joe and he's still learning the ropes and what's required at this level.

I think Ese'ese can fill the gap and possibly Fai could too.

You can probably remove that from your sig now Super Freak, any chance he had of playing Origin just evaporated.

Fai is our ace in the hole for sure. Don't know when he will be ready for first grade but I definitely want him in a Broncos jersey when he is. One less player between him and first grade isn't a bad thing as long as Joe and Ese'ese can fill the void in the short term.

Does it worry anyone that our props are all so young? It's the kind of position where players don't really become serious first graders until 25 years+. Wallace was getting into that age bracket, but now we're left with a bunch of 20 year olds (and younger).

WAYNE Bennett says it is disappointing to lose Jarrod Wallace to another club but that is life with the salary cap.

The Gold Coast Titans announced today they had signed Broncos' prop Jarrod Wallace to a three-year deal starting in 2017.

Coach Bennett addressed the matter this morning after training and said there was little the club could do in the face of a more lucrative offer.

"We didn't want to lose him," said Bennett.

"But that's the salary cap and they had more to spend on him than we did.

"We wish him well."

The Broncos are still to re-sign players like Matt Gillett and Kodi Nikorima, and Bennett said it would invariably help situations like that.

"It is part of the juggling act - if it's not those two, it is someone else," he said.

"At the end of the day you have got a salary cap and we are all working to stay within it.

"It's not that we didn't want Jarrod or didn't make him a good offer.

"But the Titans offered him more and we couldn't go with that.

"But that will help us with trying to keep some others down the track."

Wallace is set to start at prop for the Broncos against the Panthers at Suncorp Stadium tomorrow night.

Just going to put my detective / conspiracy hat on for a moment, don't mind me.

Does anyone else find it odd that Blair hasn't really played on the edge all season, and then the second after Wallace announces he's leaving, he's shifted mid-week to the left edge? Almost as if Wayne wants to see if he can handle it for next season because we're signing a starting prop in place of Wallace..

8. McGuire
9. McCullough
10. Napa / K.Sims
11. Blair
12. Gillett
13. Arrow

Confirmed.

I hope we keep Alex Glenn. Have you heard he is leaving or something?

I'd say this will be our 2017 Forward pack:

8 Signing
9 Andrew McCullough
10 Adam Blair
11 Alex Glenn
12 Matt Gillett
13 Josh McGuire

14 Jai Arrow
15 Tevita Pangai Junior
16 Sam Thaiday
17 Kodi Nikorima

I think Blair does his best work in the middle. He's the rock there and needs to be able to cover both sides immediate to the ruck. 8, 10, or 13 should be all he's considered for.

Playing a ball player like Blair on an edge could give us another dimension in attack and he can still be used as a battering ram to make ground up field. It also gives Sua another 2 years to develop into a first grader. While I really like Glenn, I could cope with him leaving at the end of this season and I'm sure the team could too.

If Blair is playing second row in attack and middle in defense, it isn't really that hard to adjust to is it? Aside from last week, he hasn't really offered much in terms of hit ups at prop anyway. I think it is a step in the right direction if we start using our mobile forward pack to be...mobile.

Yes. I am a little worried. We were already struggling for size and our bench is very inexperienced.

Here's a little taste of how they go all together (Ese'Ese makes a nice run down the edge):

Why is everyone so keen to shovel Alex Glenn out the door? I think he's one of our better players. Always puts his hand up for the hard runs coming out of our own end and he hits hard in defence. We miss him when he's not there.
