I'm sorry for sending this post on a tangent, but its a personal grievance I have with them, pokies really. Ive watched my parents waste way too much money in the things and had friends who spent every penny not spent on essentials. I guess its a better experience than some who've lost their partner's homes or has led to robbing their employer and subsequent gaol, but it was enough to put me off.
I get some people will go for a night out there and enjoy it for just that. That's great for them. But for those with gambling addictions, there is no stop button, no self-restraint.
I don't have the answer, but perhaps a cap on money spent before entering would be a start. Make it a contained experience, with the cost upfront. You might argue it inhibits your freedom, but it would help prevent a lot of heartache.

As usual the truth is somewhere in the middle. Casinos arent for everyone but they can be fun and if people are sensible most will enjoy themselves, those that dont believe in gambling or have issues should absolutely stay away.

i think comparing the treasury (poor attempt at a casino) to the crown in melbourne you will find an enormous difference. the crown has a whole entertainment precinct that doesnt involve gambling. the sports bar is insane and a great place to have a drink and watch all sports. you can go to the crown and have a great night without even havinga bet, as many people do.
the treasury is a dog box and really offers nothing for entertainment.

i agree 100%, i enjoy a bet on the horses and also a flutter on the tables if i go to the casino - rare occassion. again it comes down to the person individually.
i think comparing the treasury (poor attempt at a casino) to the crown in melbourne you will find an enormous difference. the crown has a whole entertainment precinct that doesnt involve gambling. the sports bar is insane and a great place to have a drink and watch all sports. you can go to the crown and have a great night without even havinga bet, as many people do.

also, a tip for the lads out there if they ever visit. cougar central at the groove bar on friday and saturday nights. its just across the foyer from the sportsbar.
