The problem with signing players from the ESL is that it's an inferior comp. Much harder in the NRL. Hastings couldn't cut it in the NRL with his opportunities.

Forwards tend to go alright because their job is pretty straightforward and simple. Backs on the other hand, they tend to go down the shitter here.

The post you quoted literally said that forwards have tended to fare better than backs.

Remember when the Warriors signed Sam Tomkins on $1 million a year and had to pay a similarly hefty transfer fee? He was the best ESL player for a few years running there. How did he go?

Rapana has played a couple of games at FB for Canberra (and possibly Titans) - but nothing extensive. He's publicly stated a few years ago that FB was his preferred position, but that obviously doesn't mean it's his BEST position.

I am actually not against this at all. Providing we aren't paying overs then I think it would be a great signing.

If he is indeed signed as a fullback then at least we know Rapana would be following the ball looking for offloads from our forwards and create some second phase play. He's a great ball runner.
