RUMOUR Jordan Rapana to sign

It probably has to do with the team being in two minds as to if we are kicking or running. That and the fact that even our "half" has no idea what is happening on the next play probably leaves them a little bit puzzled. Combine it all with terrible outside defence and terrible kicking game and it would be hard for anyone to stand deep, except maybe the fullback (hence why they often look a million dollars in attack over any other player).
Fix our attack, starting with our halves having some set plays with options and we look a whole lot better. Combine that with some authority out of halfback (it will mean the likes of milford, macca, turpin and even boyd will need to stand back and let our half, whoever he is (even if he is 18 years old) do his job.
For the record, I think we need a decent half who can call the shots and this be precedent over any other signing. I don't care if we start with macca at hooker, milf at fullback or 5/8th or isaako on the wing or fullback. None of that matters if we have no direction out of the halves. We need some to give it, and the coach to give them the tools to do so.
Do we give dearden the rope to do so? I really liked what I saw from him, looks to be a player who reads a situation well. I also think milf can do it but he has the job of 6,7,1 in the back of his head it stuffs him right up.

I like dearden, i think he has the capacity to, but i think it is unfair to ask a kid (who only has limited experience in ISC and NRL and was not the dominant half in these appearances) to step in and control a floundering team. We saw what handing the keys over to a struggling team did to taylor.

He would really benefit from a year or two in ISC learning and applying his trade as a dominent half.

For those who argue that we have other 18 and 19 year olds in our first grade team, the forwards and outside backs are totally different to a halfback role. Their roles are simple and just follow directions, they are not implementing, reading and amending the game plan. That takes experience and practice, particularly closing matches (which we have not had since locky).

And at least weekly specialist half training with locky and alf

We should be sending a couple of hundred grand in Jackson Hasting's direction to be honest. The bloke absolutely carved up Wigan in the ESL semi overnight. He absolutely has it all over Croft, believe you me. Would steer us round the park beautifully from what I saw.

The problem with signing players from the ESL is that it's an inferior comp. Much harder in the NRL. Hastings couldn't cut it in the NRL with his opportunities.

Forwards tend to go alright because their job is pretty straightforward and simple. Backs on the other hand, they tend to go down the shitter here.

Looks like Hastings has matured a lot though, so am wondering if the 12 months over there steering his team around has boosted his game management abilities. Salford were at any old odds to do anything this year and now they are in the grand final. They are basically a team of misfits.

Also of note, Wigan's George Williams, who is Canberra's big halfback signing for 2020, was absolutely schooled by Hastings and made to look second rate. Hastings also just voted by the British RL press as the ESL player of the year. We could do MUCH worse than giving this lad a second chance in the NRL.

I urge anyone to take a look at the repeat on Kayo, or even just the highlights reel. Hastings put on an absolute masterclass in halfback play.

Sorry to highjack the thread Ning, but I am telling you, this lad could very well be the answer to our halfback woes. And at a cut-rate price too!

Isn't he playing for Wigan for the next two years?would probably mean a transfer fee if we did chase him.

Seems to have a decent sense of timing. Something we lack. But geez, this is second rate defence:

If he’s anything like his dad Kevin i’d sign him.

Apparently he's got a clause in his contract that sees him return to the NRL is he is offered a contract.

first domino to fall though has to be Bird..until his future is sorted this is all academic for me..

People talking about making a move for Latrell....whats happening with the turbo brothers..?

If you want the club to spew money in all directions then those 2 are the guys id go 110% for personally...

Watching Jets v Bears and we would be crazy not to look at Fogerty. He is better than what we have at present imo.

You need to be realistic man, they're not leaving Manly. We can't outbid Manly and there's no way they're going to come to Brisbane unless we pay serious overs and we'd have to lose at least fifita and another really good player to accommodate them.

It's pipe dream stuff, I think they're both superstars but I wouldn't discuss the idea because only the Roosters would be able to take them from Manly.

If we could just get Tom, that's one thing. Can't afford them as a package deal though. Especially with how much of the salary cap the Broncs pack is already taking up.

If either of the Turbros came to Brisbane ... they’d have to be ok with never being allowed back in the Northern Beaches. They’d be lynched if they tried to go back

Absolutely. The turbo brothers are as 'northern beaches' as the Manly Ferry. We could offer them a million dollars each and they would still never leave Manly. Been playing in that area since they were knee high. They are Manly for life.
