NEWS Kahu set to return to Broncos after short stint at Cowboys

It’s head scratching from the front office but Jordy has been a great servant of our club and always tried his guts out. He was shifted all around the paddock without complaint and busted his ass to come back from many serious injuries.

I share the frustration at our roster management and am in awe of how this has happened but I can’t respect any fan who is aiming their anger at Jordan.

On a similar note, what I don't understand is how this contract for 2020 is valid. By signing with the Cowboys this year, doesn't that make his original broncos contract invalid (as it no longer exists essentially)? Hence by not re-signing with the Cowboys, how is he able to re-enact a previous contract that has been broken/voided / does not exist. If there was a clause on his previous broncos contract, how can it be re-enacted if his prior broncos contract has been terminated. Any contract lawyers on here care to enlighten me on the topic?
According to what 1910 (I think said) it was a term in the release agreement signed between the club and Kahu. Just smart thinking by Kahu (or probably his agent). If he had a 3 year contract of which he was only through one year, and the Cowboys were only offering a one year contract, I would want to protect myself in respect of the third and last year as well.

He agreed to leave on the basis that if he could not find a satisfactory contract for the third year, he was entitled to come back on the terms of the previous contract. He did not want to leave and we clearly needed the salary cap space so we agreed to that.

I am still not sure what happened at the Cowboys, whether an offer was made for 2020 or not. But if the offer was a lot less than the amount that he knew the Broncos would pay, I would want to come back as well.

If he took their offer they would have. Its clear why he has come back to us really. I dont blame him one bit. I expect our players to honour their contracts and i expect the club to show the same courtesy to the players. Maybe this is where the people above White should be looking at who is negotiating these deals as it seems the player's managers are fleecing the Broncos.

Why didn’t he take their offer?

Fitting ad for this thread.

Don't know for sure, but it was probably a lot lower than his Broncos contract for 2020

But if that was the case couldn’t the broncos have just topped up his contract with the cows which would have been better than having to carry his whole contract value next season?

Only if Kahu wanted to stay with the Cowboys I think, and tbh, I don't think he did. He would be struggling to make their side next year so he probably figured he would be better off back in Brisbane.

I think he will struggle to make the broncos side next season particularly if bird stays healthy and siebs continues to refuse to make the hard call on Boyd.

Unlike most people here I'm quite happy with Kahu being back in the team. Fit and healthy he's a quality player, Good goal kicker, decent finisher, good utility and if him being here means never seeing shibasaki back in the side again it's a huge win.

If you forget how much Kahu is supposedly being paid, this is a good point. Anything to prevent Shibasaki IS a good thing.

That said, there is something in Gehemat, whether he or the coach can unlock that is a question I doubt will be answered.

If you’re going to struggle to make either team I’d rather be in Brisbane than Townsville

Fair point.
He does add depth to our backs just remains to be seen if he gets an opportunity.

To those who are going nuts about the ineptitude of the Broncos allowing such a ridiculous contract situation to occur, you are missing the bloody obvious.

We did not Kahu and wanted him off our books if we could make it happen. Kahu failed to gain a 2 year offer so that left Brisbane with 2 choices;

1 - let him go for 1 year, which potentially helps us for that 1 year, and with luck he will get an extension and we don't have to have him back

2 - don't let him go at all and carry him for both years

So either carry him definitely for 2 years, OR possibly carry him for 1, possibly not at all

And people think we made the wrong choice? FMD

He did gain another offer from the Cows but rejected it. I bet the Broncs paid 100% of his wage last year.

You know what I mean Sproj

OK so I'll make it clearer.......in the hope he would gain an acceptable offer

The point remains, Brisbane made the only choice they could that gave them some hope of getting rid of him, and that's not good enough for some people

It’s the same fucking administration that made the shit deal in the first place, that’s why they are copping the heat because they are fucking stupid.

Just because they made the best decision to try and get out of the fucking hopeless contract they got into in the first place doesn’t make it any better.

I get where you are coming from of course but I fear you may be giving too much credit to an administration that continues to set new lows in stupidity.
