NEWS Kahu set to return to Broncos after short stint at Cowboys

I'm not as pissed off as most people on here, because i've always been (and still am) a big fan of Kahu.

he offers us good depth across the entire backline, and is a decent back up kicker. He will keep the pressure on the likes of Isaako, Boyd etc, which is only a good thing.

people need to put their anger aside for just a second and think logically about things ... here is why we won't be spend any of the money Gillett frees up on Kahu:

because the club (Louise in particular) would have been well aware that this clause was in Kahu's release (as foolish as it was to not only release him, but add this clause to his release.), so the money would likely already have been accounted for in next season's cap.

Remember Gillett wasn't a planned retirement (and there is still a chance that we need to include his salary in our cap), so had Gillett not retire and Kahu still came back, then we would have been at least 400k over the cap. so until that happened, his salary would have been counted by us, until he signed elsewhere IMO.

despite some of our retention and recruitment decisions over the last few years, our BUSINESS PRACTICES are still top notch and up there with the best (if we not #1 we are very close to it) of all sporting clubs in the country. there is no way we allow ourselves to end up 400k over the cap, by simply failing to account for a contract that was a very real possibility of occurring

hell maybe that was originally how we planned to get the money for Croft, by Kahu signing a contract with another organisation.

Kahu also won't cost us Fifita because he is off contract at the same time (end of 2020) and we can cut Kahu lose if we need his cash.

He needs the money, his career is cooked and he knows it!

Yep, I said in the other thread, he cast his rod into the Union sea, never caught a bite (big surprise) so is now cynically cashing out. He's no better than Boyd in this situation.

100% and it’s all managements fault, of course he was going to take it. **** I’m livid!

She's the salary cap manager. Far more than an accountant. She's the one who signs off on things. Pretty good insight into what she does and how the process works.

Bennett might have done what you suggested 20 years ago, but not in 2017. Its a way different system these days.

I seriously cant believe in 2019 people still think the Broncos head coach controls the whole recruitment process.

Well it’s a good thing she is a worst case scenario person because this club embodies worst case scenario, sounds like she is the perfect woman for the job.

Souths have how much in the cap now? And could easily throw him a bit of a lifeline 150-250k but even the bloke that signed him last time knows it's a bad investment.

Not every player is going to be a Lockyer and put the club first. That’s why management needs to get ruthless. Seems like the more it’s tilted in the players favor the worse the results get.

Oh jesus christ, another ISC journeyman that upthebroncs wants to sign

As a mentor i think he would be ok tbh, but not sign him up. We could make use of him by having halves at Souths. I think Cullen for example will be good for Paix at Reddy.

I think the system we have is perfectly fine. I dont know about the personnel. I know who they are and what they do, but could we do better? Are they the best we can get?

We really are only talking right now about Boyd, Milf, this Kahu deal and possibly Macca as really poor deals. The Haas deal is a piece of business that we have done that looks to be an outstanding deal. We have also bought in the likes of Carrigan, Staggs, Flegler, Fifita, Lodge, TPJ ( to a point ) and Oates who all look like good work going into the future. I think what we need to work on is contract lengths and options. If we signed Boyd on a 2 year deal instead of a 4 year deal, it would have been right on the mark.

Segeyaro was never a good choice, Ofa being on so much, the entire Seibold situation, this Kahu thing, releasing players without getting anything in return. There hasn’t been a good decision made at this club for an entire year now. We are a joke. I’m actually embarrassed

Since we shit the bed with Bellamy it’s been a fucking farce

Is there any confirmation of how much we were paying while he was at the cows?

The part that pisses me off was the negotiated deal. Who in their right mind gives a player the option to return if they cant make it with another team following their season?! Out of any player who has been injury prone, it would unfortunate for Kahu - and it has, that his shoulder has effectively ended his time at the cows but legally can come walking back to us.

**** me. Someone potato at HQ doesnt know how to negotiate business. Another busted player to repair before pre season. Just as we were getting ontop of things we are obligated with another 400k. It would be a sick turn of events if this costs us Fifi or a half.

That's all far too logical for this board.

I think everyone will go with angry mob instead

I would add Bird to the list... not because he is a poor player or because he's been injured, but because he was not needed at all and we paid a premium to get him.

If the intent was to play him at 1, 6 or 13 then we shouldn't have paid top dollar because he was a risk in those positions.

If we paid top dollar just to play him at center then we are fucking idiots... and to top it off let's give him a player option on top dollar without knowing what we have actually bought him for

Even if it is to cover a Boyd retirement, it’s Kahu and he was just as bad last year. The fucking Cowboys didn’t even want him. How can you spin it that it’s a good thing that we are going to have a player that the Cowboys didn’t even want?
