Players should take responsibility for performing in their role and should be confident that they can live up to expectations. Obviously, injury should not activate this pay drop.
It seems to me that in the NRL, once a player signs a contract, he can be sure that he will receive that until the end date of said contract, with performance bonuses but no performance penalties.
There would be all sorts of conditions built in players contracts throughout the NRL. Not every contract is a simple as sign here and we will guarantee you x amount of dollars per year regardless of performance. Look at the recent signing of Hala to prove that performance based contract exist.
Every contract offered is a risk by the club. Sometimes you get what you pay for, such as a Corey Parker, sometimes you get a bargain such as a Vidot or even Hunt this year, sometimes you get a lemon. Kennedy is our lemon but i don't blame the club for that risk. Have 3 or 4 lemons on the trot then fingers point to the club rather than the players underperforming.
I agree that Kennedy should take some personal responsibility. His "punishment" will be when he needs another contract an no one wants anything to do with him except at a low price. Unfortunately that doesnt help us in the short term.
