Knights set to sign Ben Hunt

So much for keeping our young players and develop a winnning team. I'll be pissed if Hunt moves on, but if he does I don't blame him at all. I have never been too critical of Hook, but recent events have me wondering if he has the club's best interests at heart. I think fans would have accepted a few lean years with young blokes gaining experience, but having Wallace in their stopping any young player from developing seems to be really hurting our future prospects.

I think the thing was that Wallace was there to develop a young player alongside. Norman was that young player. Norman fucking stank up the joint in the 5/8 role. Then they brought Prince in instead of trying another young player, namely, Hunt.

If I'm not mistaken, hasn't Kahu been pegged for the 5/8 role for a few years?

Maybe they already have a better halfback in their sights ?

5. Will the Broncos go after Johnathan Thurston?
Anthony: This has been asked in the media a lot lately and no, we won’t. OK, let’s look at this honestly - as good as he is he is on the wrong side of 30. He has another year of his contract with the Cowboys and by that time he will be 32. We would have to purchase him at a premium. To put that in perspective, that would be about $1 million. What would we get for that? He was 23 when he started playing first grade. We have Corey Norman, 21, and Ben Hunt, 22, both playing first grade. When Johnathan started playing, no one batted an eyelid. Now we have two young players that we would have to sell to get Thurston so that he could play a couple of years for us before retiring. Then once we have spent upwards of $1 million, these two young guys are going to come back and beat us while playing for another team because we have sold them for Thurston before they reached their potential. We need to persist with these young guys. It is frustrating at times but the only way to learn is to get out there. Even Locky made mistakes when he was in his early 20’s, Wayne stuck with him and look how far he got.

Something has gone wrong.

He's still got to meet with the club first.

Allegedly, negotiations begin in about two weeks.

And our current success. Throw a young kid in, potentially lose. Keep Wallace, probably lose. Only one of these makes sense...

I reckon Norman is pissed because he lost his spot to Prince while Wallace continues to stink it up. Hunt would be in the same boat

Yeah, makes no sense. You'd think he'd be doing all he can to go to the Dragons, but not the Knights.

Maybe Bennett is coming back and he's trying to clean out the Broncos before he arrives. What better way to do that under the radar than to recruit players to the Knights!

Hard to determine where he'll end up Bull Shark.

He definitely wasn't the next Andrew Johns or whatever wild comparisons he received in the NYC. However, at his best, he could have been the next Cooper Cronk. Not really a talented half per say, but one who knew how to organise the attack, with a reasonable kicking game to boot.

Mind you, the way he's been treated all these years, I can see him becoming the next Ben Walker.

Supposedly a great junior halfback who's solid at best.

No supposedly about it. He was great. That he hasn't kicked on is either due to his own glass ceiling, or the Broncos development of him.

Being as objective as possible, I'd say it's 60-40 the fault of Broncos development.

Why the **** have we persisted with Wallace?? If he was any good he would have a premiership ring by now.

It's one of the great mysteries of the NRL. It's hard to believe Wallace is in his 6th season with us...

Oh wait, we still have Capewell in QLD Cup! Oh thank god, I was worried we'd have no depth, but luckily he's one of the best players of all time and we don't have to worry about ever struggling with the halves again.

And we can always plug Gillett into five-eighth.

I was referring to Ben Walker who I never got to see in the juniors but keep hearing how he and Locky were seen as equals.

I reckon that's pretty fair. To the Broncos defence, Hunt isn't exactly the most talented player and when he was given a shot early he didn't live up to the hype.

However, it appeared those stints off the bench were doing his game the world of good in 2010. I remember he was given a shot early on in the season when Wallace picked up an injury and was pretty ordinary but when he was called on later in the season against the Raiders he was for my money one of our better players.

I would have thought after getting used to the speed and standard of the NRL, the idea would be to play him in the QCup and call him up in case of injury or around the Origin period but it just didn't happen. Instead of blooding Hunt, we went with Norman and the rest as they say is history.

we had steve michaels for 6 years, stu kelly for 4, casey mcguire for 6, brad meyers for 4, scott minto for 5, barry berrigan for 4. unfortunately, its believable that we've persisted with wallace for so long. we need a cleanout of the higher ups, and we need to realise that as a club we need to take a new direction. sticking to only juniors and 1 outside buy every 5+ years just isnt feasible any more. it was when we had all of QLD to choose from and everyone wanted to play for us, but those days are long gone.

there were a few games in like 1999 where ben walker looked like the next lockyer. he was just absolutely killing it, controlling matches like thurston/lockyer can.
