League to AFL?

But given he has played Aussie Rules during his youth, I think that kind of awareness will come fairly naturally. It's not like he has no experience.

Yes and no - let's not overstate the AFL experience he has had. It was 6 games for Churchie in the GPS competition. GPS AFL isn't that great - AFL is pretty far down the GPS totem pole.

So basically you're saying he's an AFL nuffie? [icon_razz1

I like that idea.

These players in their prime could/would go well in fumbleball: Wallace
I'd like Wallace to start going well in the game he chose for a start.

Hey Coxy, here's a tough question for you:

Which sport do you prefer, "Soccer' or AFL?

That must be tough my friend.

I'll give you some thinking music while your neurons form the necessary connections to answer this almost impossible question. icon_smile

About the same, though I find it easier to sit through AFL for longer than soccer. Soccer bores me too easily.

Basically I am saying that he doesn't have a whole lot of AFL experience behind him, like some people are trying to make out. His experience is limited, so it isn't necessarily going to help him that much. He may be a nuffie, he may go great guns. I wait to see.

Well with all the professional training they will be giving him pre-season etc, I highly doubt he will turn out to be a nuffie. I predict he will look just as much an AFL footballer than the rest of the team's lesser capped players. You won't be able to tell the difference between Harmichael and a rookie who's been playing the game for the duration of his youth and into his early adult years.

These things always work out.

He might even look good on the GCFC team, if the club's inagural team is filled with pre-existing nuffies. [icon_razz1

I firmly believe that the AFL now has a no-holds-barred approach to tackling South-East and Northern QLD for AFL draft prospects now.

Karmichael has opened the door to something the NRL has joked about for years, players switching to the AFL.

If the NRL is not worried, they should be. Be very afraid, the AFL has a lot more money and weight behind them. The NRL really needs to put something in place to provent this sort of thing from becoming to common, in order to preserve the games grassroots level, if they don't. Rugby Union, AFL, Japanese and Irish RU could just tear the competition apart and send it back to the dark ages.

I'd say the NRL should be proud that their junior and senior players are well recognised as genuinely great atheletes, but not be too proud to let them go.

That's what I said yesterday and I stand by it. This could become a big issue for the NRL without them knowing.

He is not a good aerial player and can't kick.......my jury is still out until 2010.

P.S. GI would rape the AFL

GI would rape most sports.

Frankly I reckon he would be a gun wide reciever in the NFL, big strong fast, great hands, he covers it all.

Coxy - I don't think it will cause major troubles IMO.
What you say about teens playing league first... perhaps... but they might grow to love league if they become really big in league. (Assuming they would have to be a rep player at least to get AFL offers anyway)
A lot of hypotheticals but I don't think the AFL is a problem yet compared to the jap and french rugby at the moment.
However, the fact that young league players want out cannot be ignored. I know not everyone agrees with me in terms of media scrutiny which is fair enough but there are a number of reasons why young league players want out and I believe the NRL should address this. Yes - we KNOW some other young kid will come up and be a freak but it is just hurting our depth when we could potentially keep all these young guns. Retiring players moving to SL for some cash is nothing new but I wish we didn't have to do that either.

Coxy - in regards to your question I don't think AFL is a threat but it has happened now. Whose to say there will be no more? I just think the NRL should act!!!

Back in Lockyers fullback days I always thought he was one of the few players who could make the switch and be a gun AFL player. Of course it's a good thing that never happened haha

LOL at AFL, grade 11 I was late to the day you had to pick what sport you wanted to play, I was left with AFL or sitting in the library and reading. I read many books that season.....

Inglis authoritatively put that idea to bed on The Fussball Show last night if I remember correctly. Said it was just media speculation or something like that.

If he's anything like Harmy though, expect him to be shaking Guy McKenna's hand by the end of the season. [icon_wink

He said he was committed until the end of his current contract with the Storm, which is 2012. So the article is consistent with that.

He gave no guarantees what his future held beyond then.

I dont think inglis is in the same category as khunt. Arrogant on field, maybe off field, but surely hes not stupid enough to do the things khunt has
