NEWS Legends to Milford: No more excuses

And McCullough can't do shit about that while our players are being smothered in tackles and the defensive line is already on him or the next runner the moment the ball is in their hands. Smith & Hodgson don't create the momentum, they perpetuate the momentum that's been earned by their forwards.

I'm more talking about Macca's inability to engage the markers effectively rather than the speed of his service, I'm definitely not discounting our forwards lack of ability to find there elbows and knees though. To me, both these problems feed into each other and make it that much harder to come back from.

Macca's passes are usually slow and high, wide or anything but handsome. If they are on song, they are generally too slow.

All true, and every ball he passes, without fail, spins end over end. Like he doesn't give a ****. It's the most brain-dead style I've ever seen. No one else does it.

If you want to make it even more jarring, watch how Rugby Union backs pass the ball.

Milford brings this all on himself. He did say that he wanted to be the dominant half and they paid him handsomely to do just that. Kodi isn't the problem here, he is doing what he is instructed to do in the team and is doing it actually quite well. If the dominant playmaker was doing his job people would be singing praises from the roof. He isn't supposed to lead the team around prior to contrary belief that its the job of all halfbacks even when people forget that Lockyer did all this from 5/8. Its Milfords job to be the man on the field and he will live and die by the sword just like Thurston, DCE, Pearce, Morgan, Maloney, Johnson etc do.

Milf wasn’t only the dominant half last year, he was the only one doing the job of both.

Actually Lockyer did not do that. He had Perry and Wallace doing that "menial job" and only injected himself when required. Those are two players who are heavily underrated as far as how much they helped Lockyer being the best player in the game.

Being the dominant half is not the same thing as being the organising halfback.

I’m pretty over our ex-players dumping all this pressure on Milf.

You want him to run? Stop making him be the controlling halfback!

You know what Locky, your part of the board, get him a fucking halfback. I don’t care what number you put on Kodi it will never make him a halfback.

The day the club goes out and gets a proper halfback, not even a great one, just a good kicker and organiser I will start accepting this constant criticism of Milford, until then shut the **** up!

I’m to the point where I almost hope the release Milford so he can fulfil his career at a club that will let him play to his strengths. The embarrassment to the club when this guy becomes elite when paired with an actual halfback might actually wake them the **** up.
Imagine how good Lockyer would have been with a decent halfback. Pretty sure he didn’t have one most of his career

Alf? But yeah, not as a 6.

Brisbane hasn't had a gun halfback since Alf, Hunt was the closest thing but he crumbles under pressure and Wallace was good but not great. Broncs also didn't get the best out of Prince. Meanwhile, Qld has produced JT, Cronk, Smith (would be a gun at halfback), DCE and Prince (after Brissy).

They are rare but Brisbane tends to miss them. Still can't believe they thought JT was too small.

I may be wrong but I can't recall Lockyer and Langer in the halves together at the Broncos. I do know Lockyer did play 5/8th(people make the mistake he was originally a fullback, he was a 5/8th manufactured into a fullback) with Walters halfback early on in his career such as this(note it's not his debut, he made his debut against Parramatta earlier in the same season)

Look at that kick for Willie Carne, now that is a fucking kicking game.

As far as I remember, you’re right. I was meaning they didn’t play together in the halves.

To be honest I had a feeling that was what you meant anyway mate :)

The Dragons and Titans offering stupid overs for the two blokes we had staked our medium to long term future on kinda killed that position for us for a few years. The club is obviously not taking risks with our current jrs with one of Dearden (front runner), Paix, Boyd, or SOS surely developing into a quality half.

Absolutely this. I'd kill for a Shane Perry in this side. Tough as and a decent defender as well.

Lockyer and Alf played together his second game vs Roosters.

95- six games at 6- one with Alf and five with Kevvie.
96- four games at 6- one with Walker, three with Alf.

Didn't play 6 again until 2004 with Seymour.

Fair enough mate.

We should have tried to grab Blake Green. He’s exactly what we need

I thought we had a 7 in O’Sullivan?

If you don’t want a proper 7 and just want two 6s running around like headless chokes, then why buy O’Sullivan?

Surely an 18 yo Dearden would do a more accomplished job than Knick?

Was it Bennett that brought in o Sullivan?
