Liverpool have signed Damien Comelli in a chief scout/director of football role.

His claim to fames are working with Arsenal in the early 2000's, responsible for spotting and signing players like Toure, Eboue and Clichy, and more recently with Tottenham, signing players such as Bale, Berbatov, Modric, etc.

Could be an excellent addition and hopefully gives Roy the ammunition to buy the right players (not convinced we should give him a massive budget, although Meiereles has been a good signing for a decent price).

Aye, I reckon it's a decent appointment. Although, despite what Hodgson has said, I don't think he's a fan of us hiring Comelli.

Agree with you Renegade about trusting Hodgson with a lot of money. Other than Meireles, none of his signings so far really inspire confidence.

I frequent the official pool forums daily, don't post but certainly keep up to date on the happenings in and around the club.

As far as signings go, the only one I'm really disappointed with is Poulsen. We don't need him. At all. We already have lucas who can do just fine as a holding mid, though he is more of a box to box midfielder, and if Meireles is gonna play a supporting CM role... then what's the purpose of Poulsen?

Konchesky...well, it's the best we could do with a limited budget. I guess Hodgson also had an eye on the UK quota for the squad and to be fair, he's done ok. He'll never be a world-beater but with Aurelio perennially injured (why oh why did we give him a new contract) he's the best we've got. Really hoping we go after Coentrao from Benfica but, he was magic in the WC and he's continued his form for Benfica this season (recently got two goals playing as a left wing, Bale MKII??).

Cole was free and will be a good signing in time... doesn't have the legs for a LW role anymore but, should be behind Torres in the hole with Gerrard just behind him.

jones is gay. probably another homegrown quota thing but why not just promote someone like Bouzanis from the ressies, he's an Aussie and would qualify under the HG rule.

Above everything though, the main thing that I dislike about Hodgson is the way he talks about Liverpool as if he's still managing Fulham. Talking about how Man U might bid for Torres, about how we're gonna have to settle for a second best signing, stuff like that. Wake the **** up, you're at Liverpool now.

Yeah, one of the major gripes a lot of fans I talk to (on the internet haha) hold is the way he conducts his press conferences. He says some astounding things, and still seems to have that 'small club' mentality.

As for the signings, I agree about Cole, but I was under the impression that Rafa did most of the legwork for that one. A few people are starting to get on his back, but I reckon he'll be quality once we actually start playing some decent football.

Poulsen is just horrible IMO. He's the epitome of average. I can't believe how slow he is.

It was a simple header, yet he managed to head it diagonally backwards straight to a Napoli player who played it through for Lavezzi to score.
