I like Carney as a player, I think he has potential and I hope he fulfills it.

Buttttt you're talking potential v proven quality. Carney is the former while Lockyer is the latter.

No different to them selecting Pearce or Wallace or Mullen.

Naturally it's subjective who'd you choose so I can't say you're wrong, but I disagree with you.

And lets not forget who has been the one doing the 'clutch' plays in Origin for the last 3-4 years - Thurston, not Lockyer.
LMFAO at Anasta.

really?

You'd select Anasta over Lockyer?

O.../sniggers k...

Now come on his allowed to prefer one player over another.

I'm not arguing with you that Lockyer is proven quality, but going with current form, I'd prefer to have Carney. I honestly hope Lockyer has an awesome series and proves all the knockers wrong, because I'd hate to think he'd be remembered as the guy who didn't know when to give it away. I'm just not sure he's up to it imo though

Carney is a fullback btw, not a halfback.

Renegade asked anyone to name a NSW half option. I'm tipping Carney is right in the mix to be selected in the halves

It will be more than interesting to see what happens, but Lockyer (similar to W. Lewis) imo is a once in a generation player. Those who question his ability to compete at Origin level I think are seriously misjudging the character of Locky both as a footballer and a man. Having set himself this challenge, he will not let himself fail, and I predict that you will start to see the turn around as early as Friday night.

Rock, good luck if you think NSW will win this series easily, given that both Locky and Price have now announced that it will be their last (and it is possibly Petro's last series as well), the side will not let them go out losers. I have not seen anything which indicates that NSW have a team full of players that are all in top form. They are still very unsettled in the halves. They have a number of options for half back, but none that are standing out, they do not seem to have a 5/8, hooker is still a two way race between Farah and Ennis. If they pick Carney at 5/8, he has not been doing all of the tackling and you can rest assured that Qld will send Myles, Sammy, Petro, Hannant etc all straight at him. Hayne is not in the form he was in late last year (other than an occasional spurt).

I know that they will be motivated, but I just don't see what Locky would have to fear.

pearce? yes, hes been going great guns. and no, experience isnt necessary. the only way to get experience is by giving people with no experience a chance. experience is over-rated when it comes to playing football. yes it can help, but it makes no difference when one player is in better form than another who has more experience.

and i very much do like Lockyer, hes the best player ive ever seen and probably the best i ever will see. hes one of my personal favourite players too. but favourites should play NO part in selecting representative teams, and thats whats let down both QLD and NSW selectors in the past - they chose favourites instead of form players, and then wonder why they got smashed.

and i have nothing against Wallace or Norman. i dont believe ive ever even said anything bad about Norman? [icon_confu . Wallace i just dont think is that great of a player, but ive never said i dont like him. Hunt? yes, i dislike him. hes arrogant, predictable on the field, cant tackle to save his life, and is not half as good as he thinks he is. Hodges is a grub who needs to shut his mouth and figure out some way of playing more than 5 matches a season.

Norman was thrown in for fun, i will admit i have never seen you hate on him.

I can't wait to see Locky carve up NSWthis year and go out of orign like he truely should. I'll be putting a lazy $20 on him as player of the series,he should be paying good money.

I think FB said now he has made his mined up and announced his discision to play 1 more year I can see him playling alot better no that pressure is of him.

lol

Carney is a Halfback/Five-Eighth, thats the thing youre getting wrong lol. Just because he is playing Fullback NOW doesnt make him a fullback. You do realise that Carney isnt just playing his first year of NRL this year dont you?

I really can't believe how little respect Lockyer is being shown. I wanted him to retire but I don't for one second think the Maroons will be weaker with him playing!! He is the captain of the team and one of the biggest inpirations the team will have. QLD will in my mind win origin easily and do it with and for Lockyer. He is playing poorly this year but only due to the fact his whole team is playing poorly. Put your hard earned $ on Locky for man of the series IMO.

Great call by the great skipper!!!

You can't please everyone but I'm one of the people who welcome the decision. It would have been criminal not to have another crack at Origin. The fire is still burning, why put it out?
He wants and needs the challenge.
He will be part of the side that takes it to five in a row. What a champion.
Look, some people like to put club footy above Origin and that is fine - and I've always said a Premiership is the most rewarding but when it comes to Origin time all you think about is Origin. Furthermore - We honestly have a better chance at shaking up the comp NEXT year than this year anyway... and he'll give the young guns plenty of exp this year.

QUEENSLANDER!

Going by that logic, just because he was playing halfback/five-eighth 2 YEARS AGO doesn't make him a five-eighth/halfback.

WTF are you talking about????? [icon_lol1. Carney has number 1 on his back and he gets involved in the play, particularty at second receiver LIKE MOST OTHER FULLBACKS IN THE GAME DO! He is a bit more involved than most, but he is not permanantely standing at first or second revier, he doesn't defend in the line like a halfback or five-eight. He's a fullback.

He played in the halves 2 years ago FFS, I am sure he is capable of getting back into the halves eventually, but he hasn't played in the halves in a first grade competition for 2 years! And even then he was extremely inconsistant - What makes you think that he'd be a better option at Darren Lockyer in the QLD team? Because that's what we're arguing here - You're saying you could pick another 5/8 to play in the halves for QLD over Lockyer. Would you seriously select Todd Carney at 5/8 for QLD, who hasn't played a full game in the halves for 2-3 years, never played a game of origin in his life, over Darren Lockyer who has played like 40+ origin games and knows the QLD game plan more than any one else in the squad...? Seriously???[/quote:vnz0dyz9]
It doesnt matter what number carney has on his back, hes a Halfback/Five-Eighth. can you seriously not understand this?

when big TC had the number 6 on his back did you say 'Hes a five-eighth'? no, i bet you said hes a lock playing in 5/8th because we had noone else to go there - because thats why he was there. Carney is playing at Fullback because Anasta and Pearce are the 6 and 7, so he cant go there. where else can he go? well hes not a forward, or a hooker, or a lock, or a winger or centre.......fullback it is, as he has pace, he can tackle, and he can chime in whenever he wants to from the back. he is NOT a fullback, he is a halfback/five-eighth playing at fullback.

and have you even been watching any football this year? Carney is carving up, Lockyer is playing like last weeks leftovers. it doesnt matter how many origin games Lockyer has played - Carl Webb has played more Origin games than half the QLD teams of the last few years, does that mean youd choose him over an up-and-comer whos going great guns in the NRL?

you screwed up.

no, because he is a halfback/five-eighth by nature and preference [eusa_doh

like i said, would you have said that TC is a five-eighth just cause he played there for a few games through necessity? Staggs a five-eighth now too is he?

i swear, you 2 are ridiculous in how far youll go just to disagree with me.
