Name one player playing 5/8 that is better than Lockyer. Remembering that Cronk, Prince and Thurston are all halfbacks
ask Coxy if Thurstons a halfback or a 5/8th ;)

and remember, in 2008 without Lockyer we had Thurston at 5/8th for 2 of the 3 games and he was the best player on the field by a country mile, he won us that series.

There is nothing to think about, they are not going to drop anyone from the team who has just won 4 straight, let alone the captain. Why would you consider dropping a proven origin match winner and leader for a rookie.
that mentality is stupid.

just because we won doesnt mean that every player there deserves their spot.

I am surprised he has decided to play on at rep level, but I am not disappointed. It is his decision and I personally support him whatever decision he made. He doesn't "owe" either the Broncos or Qld anything. He has every right to play on if he wants to, he has given so much to club, state and country for so long. And I personally think it is the people who are saying this is a selfish decision are the ones who are actually selfish - expecting him to give up doing something he really loves and really wants to do in playing for Qld and Aust, just because it suits you better for him to only play for the Broncos. I hope he has a pearler rep year and club year. I will support him every time he runs out whatever jersey he is wearing.

I couldn't agree more Flutterby, and if he did still owe the Broncos anything it was paid back x1000 in 2006 when we won the comp, because IMHO without Locky we would not have gotten close to winning the comp. and he will more than hold his own in the 2010 Origin series when he leads the mighty Maroons to their 5th straight series win. :D

I'm happy with his decision. For me State of Origin is the best footy. I think it's the most pationate football game there is. I like watching it more than watching Broncos. Locky probably feels the same way.

I'll just put it on record that I think Locky is past it at rep level. I think he'll be ordnary, and I think Qld will struggle to win the series this year and Locky will go out a losing Aorigin captain. Hope I'm wrong, but I doubt I will be.

i think the only way youll be wrong Origin-wise is if Thurston has a couple of blinders. Lockyers struggling to come up with anything in club games, so up against the NSW origin team i just think hes gonna fall flat.

That's not the right Qlder attitude.Never count us out, we can win no problems! :)

Cam Smith has been more and more amazing lately, so he'll make up for Locky.

I am really surprised he is playing on TBH. A little pissed I think the Broncos really need him this year and it would have been nice for him to devot a couple of years to the youth at the club. I think saying Lockyer is past it at rep level is a bit premature TBH. Lockyer was pretty good against the Cowboys round 1 when the team is winning. Lokcyer has been playing behind a pretty ordinary pack how is he supposed to fire?? I think QLD will be in for a tougher test regardless of whether Lockyer is picked TBH.

I really thought he would pull the pin but I fully support Locky's decision to make himself available for rep games. Tests and origin are the pinnacle of the great game of rugby league and it's always annoyed me that some fans and players see club footy as more important. One of the reasons Queensland has played above their weight over the past 30 years of origin is that our players have always been passionate about playing for the maroons. I'm happy that he has taken a leaf out of Pricey and Petero's book and continued to uphold tradition. I believe always being available for rep selection is the way to go. To do anything less weakens the traditions of our great game.

I do agree although you probably should know the forward pack he is playing behind is getting pummeled and he has no room to move and nobody to pass too. Look at Thurston he has Tonga, Cronk has Slater and Inglis. [icon_shru

Lockyer will come good. I have no doubt. But will his body be able to handle all of these extra games?

I find it awfully selfish of him actually. His club team needs him more than ever. QLD have some brilliant players who can easily fill his role.

I'm at the point where I hope the selectors grow some, and actually pick a team based on this year's talent. That way, he can really see that he is past it, and it's time to move on.

itll never happen tho. just like hodges will always be picked when fit. It was the same for nsw for years and years with players like hindmarsh and fitz. they kept losing so were forced to change, we wont change until we are facing 4 in a row too
