Its all good for him to say 'I'll play Origin', but now its up to the selectors to say 'Thanks, but no thanks'. Just because Lockyer is fit and willing to play, doesnt mean he should. 5 years ago? sure, youd choose him even if he WASNT fit because he was still a better player than 99% of the rest of them, and we had noone else. now we have other halves coming out our ears, and theyve all been consistently better for a long time.

oh and lockyer hasnt captained the Maroons to 4 straight series wins. Cam Smith captained for one of those series'.

Anyone saying this is a selfish decision by Lockyer is way out of line. I don't get the line that he owes the Broncos something. He's been a one club man and our greatest player ever. He, and only he, has the right to make his own decision. If he wants to be a part of 5-in-a-row good on him.

The thing is, Lockyer has never, ever let the maroons down and his leadership, his prescence and the fact that he always performs well for QLD....if he's available for selection it would be silly to not select him.[/quote:3j591dwu]

They also selected Wally Lewis at the backend of his career at times his form were very similar to Darren Lockyer's current form(actually worse) when you had players like Kevin Walter's showing outstanding club form, I see this as an opportunity to send Lockyer, a Maroon captain in his own right off in the right fashion.

Lockyer is crazy to continue on, he's going to retire up after losing QLD's first series in 5 years.

Yeah just like Queensland were crazy to select Arthur Beetson at the backend of his career in a concept that apparently would never work.

Yes, let's listen to the NSWelshman about who should be selected for Qld and be captain :)

Haha, too bad buddy. He's already been assured of selection.

Can't believe the amount of crap Lockyer is copping over this.

It's his career FFS, he owes the Broncos nothing.

'never letting the team down' is vastly different to being the best player for the job.

I'm a bit shocked with that decision. Everyone has to retire at some point and this year seemed like the perfect time for him to retire - Queensland have Cronk and Prince who are ready to step up and the Broncos need him more than ever.

People shouldn't be questioning Lockyer's loyalty though, he's played over 300 game for the Broncs. There really isn't much more he can do for the club.

Lockyer is the first man picked. He is still playing good enough footy. He is one of the best competitors in a game and you just know his calm and experienced head is a priceless asset for guiding our stirkepower around the park.

I don't think we can win in Sydney without him.

Im not saying its not his decision. Im just a little upset that Queensland means more to him than the Broncos. Its his decision tho, he can do what he likes. Just like I can think what I like as well.

Mate your entitled to your opinion and that includes disagreeing with his decision to play on but I do think questioning his loyalty is out of line considering the bloke has done so much for the Broncos in such a long career, he may choose to play on rep football but that doesn't mean his not still loyal to the Broncos.

I would dare say thurston is the first picked. Without thurston, qld do not have 4 series in a row, he single handedly won us the 2008 series.

I dont mind that lockyer has chosen to play on, but i do think the selectors should think long and hard about picking him. He is not in form at all, and has players in his position player far better than him. He will get selected though, coz no-one in their right mind will ever drop lockyer.

Name one player playing 5/8 that is better than Lockyer. Remembering that Cronk, Prince and Thurston are all halfbacks

I am surprised he has decided to play on at rep level, but I am not disappointed. It is his decision and I personally support him whatever decision he made. He doesn't "owe" either the Broncos or Qld anything. He has every right to play on if he wants to, he has given so much to club, state and country for so long. And I personally think it is the people who are saying this is a selfish decision are the ones who are actually selfish - expecting him to give up doing something he really loves and really wants to do in playing for Qld and Aust, just because it suits you better for him to only play for the Broncos. I hope he has a pearler rep year and club year. I will support him every time he runs out whatever jersey he is wearing.

Sutton... done. But i guess u want qld players, which, if u want to be fickle you're correct, there are no QLD 5/8ths apart from lockyer, but lets not for a minute even pretend that thurston wouldnt be just as useful at 6 as he is at 7. its just a number on his back, he will play the same game in either position

There is nothing to think about, they are not going to drop anyone from the team who has just won 4 straight, let alone the captain. Why would you consider dropping a proven origin match winner and leader for a rookie.

cronk has played for australia... not really a rookie but i do see your point. its gotta happen one day, why not now when we have a solid nucleus to the team
