Lockyer accused of bar "tackle"

It's funny though, this whole Broncos saga was being discussed among of a few colleagues today and we all agreed on a couple of things the club could've done better ... Someone should've been "put up" on monday or tuesday (whatever day it was where that crazy car park scene happened ?) to at least issue some kind of statement on what the situation was at that stage (probably Bruno Cullen would've been the guy to do this) ...

What folks don't understand in these situations is that the MORE you give the media the less the media will hound you .. Bruno Cullen makes a short statement straight up on what the situation is / was and suddenly the media has what it wants for the day (just look at the Andrew Symonds case) ... Trad Mclean was totally out of line trying to man-handle some of the camera guys .. that's not his place to do that.

I know it was tough for anyone to say anything at that stage because details were still being sorted out, but in all honesty, but the more up front and to the point people / organisations are with media, the less they'll be subjected to the kind of crap that's been dished up about the Broncos this week ..

I think scenes like what we saw the other day in the car park are disgusting, and one of the reasons why I'm trying to get out of the media (it's a fickle, SH*T of an industry full of wankers, primadonas and people who're simply famous for being famous rather than for anything they actually DO) ...

Anyway, I prefer good news yarns anyday ...

Shows you what having a good media manager is all about, Tony Durkin would have been on the front foot for sure.

Did Bruno at any stage talk to the media (i.e. read out those press statements we have seen from the club) or did they just release them to print eusa_think

Straight to print Russo. Got them emailed to me.

Bruno looked rattled yesterday. That press conference was a shocker. Not what the club needs at the moment.

Here's one for you. News Ltd owns the Storm but they only own something like 49% of the Broncos. The other faction that opposes News Ltd's ownership of the Broncos is the Thoroughbreads, a bunch of business cunce who back Bennett. We all know that News Ltd and Bennett have been at odds for ages.

Now News Ltd is doing everything it can to bash the Broncos this week. Could it be that they're trying to destabalise them to give the Storm (the team they own) the best possible chance? I'm not talking about serious allegations like sexual assault - surely they have to report on that. I'm talking about all the rubbish that's come after, "wild photos" (http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/sport/nrl/story/0,26799,24368012-5006066,00.html) and the (not) Lockyer (non) tackle on the bar guy.

EDIT: this was an email I sent to my mates, forgive the language.

That makes sense. Especially considering that the Broncos already have the best attendances in the league, while the powers that be are trying to build the sport in Victoria. A Storm title is worth far more to them than a Broncos one.

Good to hear Wayne come out and have a go at the media this morning. He won't even view the video.
Well said and well done Wayne. [eusa_clap.gi

And that person also brings the bottles back in.

Yes he did, but only after he was caught in the act.

Look I admit...I'm a criminal!!!!

everybody, I want to publically shame myself.

I, on numerous occassions (and may very well repeat the offence) have, whilst intoxicated, removed alcohol from a licensed establishment. I have even had to return back inside these establishments when security has told me no alcohol from the bar.

There I said it. Please don't think any less of me.

I have seen the new footage & nothing changes.

You can't tell if it was him.

Lockyer never denied being at the club.

I laughed at the owner saying the abusive calls they have taken.

And they have beefed up security.

Agree. Especially in the so called tackle *cough*incident.

All I want to know is, who leaked the players names to the papers & what allegedly took place.

Was is one of the police on the case.

No-one leaked it. After the Saturday night 'incident' the media started calling all the bars and nightclubs (especially ones where the Broncos are known to hang out) and dig for dirt and get whoever answered the phone to cough up some incidents which they could then beat up.

OK, so now it seems it was indeed Locky (I think the new footage confirms it), but it was harmless fun and I think the manager is seriously going to regret going public with this from a business perspective. I often walk down past that place from work and usually a lunchtime on a Friday they are doing pretty good business - but it was virtually empty today. The staff were telling me they have received heaps of abusive phone calls from Broncos fans in the past 24 hours (not that I condone fans doing that either).

i agree it's bad for the business, i'm not going there! the guy imo just wanted attention and maybe hoped it would get him more customers. i dont know what went on but i think it's locky after seeing the new footage. i hope it was a joke, but i dont see why he' should get special treatment when other guys dont.

Sorry I meant toiletgate.

I'd say once the police became involved, no-one needed to leak it. The media are patched into the police radios and most of them would actually have 'crime reporters' who look at every call out to see if it's something reportable - alleged sexual assault at a nightclub would always attract media attention and from there it wouldn't take much questioning to get that some high profile sportspeople were involved which leads to further media digging. Remember it didn't first make it out in the media until almost 24hrs after the alleged incident occured, so they had a fair bit of time to look into and and gather some informtion.

I reckon we should make a captioon game out of the CCTV footage on the courier mail website.

The boys walk up caxton st, K looking for a mirror.
Oh wait, I'll just sit here and get my wang out.
Locky walks in followed by K thinking surely there's a mirror in here = "WTF is everyone.... Heeelllllllloooooooo"
K "oh look, a mirror,
Locky "thats not a mirror, just a shiney head bald guy"
The entoutage rolls in, distracted from their mobiles for a second.
"Hey K, stop knuckle heading that bald guy impersonating a mirror!"
Locky "lets blow this popsical stand."
"yeah bro, haven't finished my txt."
Crew hang on the corner discussing whats next.
Locky "Screw you guys, i'm going home...... hey buddy, nice shirt... woot!"

The end.

The footage shows he was there, you still can't make out whether it was the tackler though? Or am I wrong? I can't.
