lockyer out of test!

It's a damn shame that he's rushed himself back, I wonder if he realises that although it would be nice to play in the centenary test, its not worth putting the rest of your career in jeopardy [icon_thumbs_do

Yeah, but your bro is soft :P

Lucky he's a winger then [icon_razz1

Winger...centre...fullback...wish his coach would make up his mind [icon_razz1

Smithy thinks he's a winger, Dessie Morris thinks he's a fullback, ABC commentators think he's a centre. It must suck to be good at lots of things.

I'm dirty on Locky for coming back too soon...again...to try and make the Test team. I have no doubt that while doctors would've said he COULD come back last week, they would've said it's BETTER to wait another 2 or 3 weeks.

Now it'll probably be 4 or 5 weeks before he plays again.

Locky: forget about rep footy and get your bloody knee right or you won't have to worry about rep footy at all! Or any football for that matter!

AMEN to that Coxy - pretty selfish decision on his part. I'd still like him for the origin series, but much prefer he's there for the Broncos.

Thing he has to learn is that Queensland and Australia a) don't need him and b) don't pay his salary. His focus should be on getting his knee right, then worry about anything else after that.

Queensland will go just fine with Prince-Thurston in the halves. I hope Mal and the selectors overlook him for the series now anyway, maybe look at him for game 3 provided he's played 3-4 full games pain free.

Right on.It's no surprise that he is out.I reckon it was a selfish act for Locky to even try and play for the Broncs just see if he could get in the Test.Picking and choosing his games. [eusa_naugh
Against Souths he was testing if he could stay on the field for the 80min.Against Wests he was suffering but he stayed out there.
What the hell was he expecting? The knee would be fine for a medical in a couple of days maybe [icon_shru

His dream has crumbled and at the expense of the hand that has fed him.Not to mention he has let his Bronco team mates down.
Maybe we can have a fit Lockyer for the rest of the season now he has been forced to take the time off that he should have taken in the first place.

I am pleased his knee flared up now rather than see him totally collapse in the Test which was one of my greatest fears for him.

I'm absolutely shattered for him. I think a lot of people are quick to criticise him for rushing back etc. He has done everything asked of him by the medical staff and does not deserve another set back. You've got to understand what the game means to him and how much he wanted to be apart of the Centenary Test. I'm gutted!

I honestly think, whether consciously or not, he lied to the medical staff about the pain he was feeling in order to get cleared. He was even saying after the Tigers game that it felt good. Blind freddy could see he was limping badly through most of the game.

Selfishness for good intentions (eg his passion for the international game and the game's tradition and history) is still selfishness.

Broncos press statement

Darren Lockyer has been forced to withdraw from current representative duties due to persisting soreness in his knee.

The knee is stable and there are no signs of failure of the original surgery.

Lockyer has decided to continue to have treatment, reduce his workload and undertake an elective arthroscopy sometime in the next 10 days.

His return to full activity is still at this stage unclear. However, every effort is being made to encourage the natural healing process.

I don't think he was being selfish, I think he was just trying to give himself every chance of playing by taking it one game at a time and seeing how the knee felt afterwards (with the help and advice of the medical staff). Unfortunately his knee hasn't pulled up well and he's made the decision not to play. He must be so frustrated!

Lockyer's knee was causing him concern on Saturday night.

He had it strapped at one stage, yet he continued to play. IMO, that was stupid on his part.

The strapping disappeared after awhile.

Strapping was obviously designed to try and compress it to keep the swelling down. All it seemed to do was further restrict his movement, hence why he took it off.

Just dumb. Dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb.

And like you posted a while back, and me and others in support, he should have stayed out until at least now or even later.

Dumb - and now we all pray his knee won't sideline him for most of the season.

I know exactly what it's like having gone through the same thing a while back. I was so eager to get back just to get rid of the demons in my head.. questioning if i'd ever be able to run again, if i’d ever be able to play again, if i could ever really trust my knee. So I got back, played a couple of ok games under a fair bit of pain but kept telling myself it was normal and I had to fight through it. Eventually the doc made me sit out for a few weeks, which end up turning into a month. Went out again and basically made myself believe that everything was fine. Kept telling myself it was all good even though at the end of the game I realised it wasn’t. It took another month on the sideline before I could get out again... and this wasn't even first grade footy!

I hope he is patient and not rush back anymore.

I noticed early on in Sats game he was struggling, couldn't even turn to chase when Lawrence brushed him.
