Heard from you first?

Don't take credit for a newspaper.

DARREN Lockyer's dream of leading Australia in the historic Centenary Test against New Zealand on Friday has been shattered as doctors ruled him out.

Lockyer managed to play the full 80 minutes for Brisbane in Saturday night's triumph over Wests Tigers, but his troublesome right knee pulled up sore today.

Lockyer, who is returning from the knee reconstruction that ended his 2007 season, will meet with his surgeon in Brisbane tomorrow and is set to require further surgery, which could also rule him out of the first State of Origin match for Queensland on May 21.

Greg Bird will move to five-eighth to cover for Lockyer's absence, with Melbourne's Michael Crocker tipped to be called into the squad. Storm hooker Cameron Smith will replace Lockyer as captain

Not good. So he needs further surgery? How long could he be gone for?

FFS oh well $hit happens.. Locky will be back in a few weeks ready to lead the Broncs to the Premiership!

Not too bothered about him missing the test, but will be seriously peeved if he has to miss origin and/or more than a few weeks for the Broncos.

They should move Thurston to 5/8 and give Prince the Halfback job he deserves.

The 'surgery' could be just to check what's happening.

Can't think of the name of it. (They put needle in you & it has a small camera attached to it.)

I think its Keyhole Surgery or something... if he needs it he will only miss a few weeks if all go well. Hopefully he just sits out until the end of Origin series.

Sits out until the end of Origin series? That's hardly a few weeks. That's like half a season in total!
I hope he plays when he can, but sits out of Origin matches.

At least Wallis and Ennis are in great form. We've been winning without him so I'm not too worried. Disappointing that he won't be there for the Manly game but I'm still going!

I almost thought we got through a game this season with no injuries, that would clearly have been wrong.

Yeah I know but if he doesn't play until after Origin he will be better for the Broncos.

In the long run, it would definitely be better for us. We have to learn how to fully play without Lockyer. For this season though, would there be enough time at the end for him to get back to his best, and to further improve his combination with Wallace?

Besides, knowing Bennett, he'll probably put Stagg at 5/8th for the next 12 weeks.

Yeah I know that would suck but you can't doubt Staggs effort and with Hunt at fullback he will play alot of second reciever which is very good for the team. Hunt seems to play better when he gets more involved, with Lockyer out he might be able to find some really good form and get his Aussie fullback jersey back.

I'm dirty on Locky for coming back too soon...again...to try and make the Test team. I have no doubt that while doctors would've said he COULD come back last week, they would've said it's BETTER to wait another 2 or 3 weeks.

Now it'll probably be 4 or 5 weeks before he plays again.

Locky: forget about rep footy and get your bloody knee right or you won't have to worry about rep footy at all! Or any football for that matter!
