Mason in Limbo.... Should we?

My offer to Mason would be 50 cents with a $1 playing for the Broncos fee

he has won premierships and Origins, His played for NSW and Australia.

That doesn't make him a good player. It just makes him an over-rated player

By that youd be saying the Lockyer/Langer/lewis/Johns ect are Over Rated as well.

I would be unhappy if we were to sign Mason, he was pretty good in his day when he was in good NSW, Bulldogs and Kangaroos teams that gave him the opportunity to look good, but he is a has been now. If i was his manager I would be recommending Super League to him. As far as him coming to red hill, I'd much rather give some of our younger guys a go.

No his not mate, average players/solid players can win premierships and play rep footy as well.

But he did not have anything else to say except "That makes him an over-rated player". So it comes across as "Playing origin makes you over-rated"

Except where did he claim that Lockyer, Langer, Lewis, Johns etc are all overrated because they won premierships, played Origin or for other rep teams? You can be an overrated player and still achieve that, just like you can be an underrated player and achieve that. Hell look at Fatty Vautin, arguably his best football was playing for Queensland, pretty average player otherwise IMO.

my point was it came across wrong from him IMO.

i said he played Origin won premierships. he said "that just makes him over-rated"

IMO it means that at some point in his Career Mason has done something to earn the start.

He just needs to be at a club where he feels he is respected. Brisbane could be that place.

I tend to think his response was more to do with what could be seen as an assumption on your part that because he has won premierships and Origins and played for NSW and Australia that makes him a worthwhile recruit with a change of clubs. His view differs in that I tend to think he believes Mason has been living off that reputation and yet not really delivering for a number of years now(making him overrated which is fair enough especially based on recent seasons).

Well imo any player can recapture previous form in the right place and i dont think Mason has had any major injury to slow him down.

And yes as Coxy said his jumping clubs is his own fault. But that doesnt count out the fact he has still been unsettled.

Likewise a change of clubs can be a pointless move even if it could be the right one for him, when it comes to recruitments there are no certainties and the Roosters paying big dollars for Mason is a perfect example of that, or Dale Shearer who changed that many clubs who recruited him thinking a change of clubs would get him back to the player he was, didn't work though.

Welcome to the risk that is Rugby League.

Which I don't have a problem with as long as its worthwhile and theres need for it, with Mason I'm not so sure thats the case when players like McGuire and Hala exist, working hard and would appreciate the opportunity at the club and desire to make it in the NRL, not take it for granted.

As mentioned above - take him for 50k nothing more --> which won't happen so blah.

the problem is that when one of our better forwards gets injured we dont have much in the way of replacements, and we lose a LOT of go forward on the field. just look at what happened to us when nick kenny got injured last year! Mason COULD be that extra big forward we need who makes 10m+ per run, and can offload.

or he might just play mediocre and go missing like he has been doing. thats a risk that i think the Broncos would be idiots to not take.
