"Milf will be like Locky" - Bennett

Seriously, Boyd will be playing fullback. fullstop.

We need a player like Boyd on the wing ... a player who has speed, athleticism and knows how to find the try line.

Wing is an under-rated position IMO, by both fans and players alike. in fact some think being on the wing is beneath them (and i feel some fans think the same way) especially when you see comments like such and such is too talented to be on the wing.

try to tell guys like Yow Yeh that wing is a less important position ... I bet he'd give anything to be able to "sit" on the wing again.

In fact how many tries have been bombed by our wingers over the last couple of years ... we'd definitely be well into double figures ... that is something Boyd could rectify.

Do we though? Off the top of my head i can think of 5 players that would be better suited to play on the wing. Kahu, Vidot, Maranta, Anderson and Oates I think Boyd is too good to only get so few touches per game that a wing would be given. I think he would go great in the centers but then that leaves Copley out providing Hodgo isn't injured.

I know, WE ALL KNOW ;)

But in this case, regardless of whether Bennett would even consider it or not, it's a fair argument. The case for Milford right now persevering at 5/8 is that up until now we've had plenty of competent fullbacks, just a lack of talent in the halves (at least those that are ready for NRL). I'm not saying that Taylor is ready, because I've only made it to one game this season, so have seen effectively nothing of him. But that potentially solves the halves problem. The next stumbling block is that we have a fullback on decent money (arguably very worth it) about to come back, who has won a premiership in that position. That of course is solved by putting him somewhere that is traditionally not a big-dollar position, but one where our team in particular needs safety & finishing ability, as none of our current stocks have both (arguably Kahu, but again, not proven).

Hey, it may happen, but likely won't. Bennett may be too stubborn, or he may have complete confidence in Milford. It's a question of whether 1) Boyd, 2) Maranta, 6) Milford, 7) Hunt is outright better, or has a better team dynamic to, 1) Milford, 2) Boyd, 6) Taylor, 7) Hunt. Considering Bennett is staunch on safety and defence, right now, option 1 looks like the way he'd lean. But who knows.

Just saying it's a fair point to make. But probably overdone now.

Never said it wasn't a fair point, just that it was a fair point 6 months ago and I don't see the point of constantly saying it, it's not like it's 'Candyman' and if you say "Boyd on the wing" five times into the mirror it will happen.

TBH I think the only place that Milford at 6 is seen as a disaster and panic stations is within the fan base, certainly not at Red Hill

It seems necessary to constantly say it, if the next remark is about Milford being a disaster at 6, because it has never been about that.

I think some people are over reacting in this thread. We won 5 in a row and only went down by 2 to the dragons(who have now won 5 in a row). The fullback position seems to be cursed this year so putting him at FB would probably just see him injured with the rest of them. Boyd will be in the side soon enough and we can see how the spine is then.

WB might just have meant that he will be like Lockyer, bald ! I will be very very pleased if Milford becomes as good as Kevvie Walters and never attaining Lockyers status. What most should remember is that before Lockyer there was Lewis which is as far back as my adult memory takes me. That's two elite 5/8 s in thirty years. It might be that we will not see another like those two greats for sometime. I for one will never expect or anticipate that Milford will be in that class. I set a much more realistic ,yet still lofty bar.

Interesting that you make that observation because both Locky and Wally were to a fair extent manufactured 5/8's much like we are trying to do with Milf. I would add one other elite 5/8, Bob Fulton, but that still only makes 3 in almost 50 years.

Regardless of where Milford plays, he's a good player and will get even better in time.

We won the comp in '06 with an average player at best at 7, so I think some peeps are being overly dramatic for someone who a) is still in his early 20's and b) is at a new club.

We also had the best 5/8 to have ever played the game, arguably the best forward pack in the comp and one of the best back lines in the comp..

Comparing Anthony Milford to Shane Perry is like comparing a shack of cardboard boxes to a mansion. You make a good point on the rest though.

Come on! Milford hasn't been playing that bad :P

... and Thurston missed 8

Not a good game for superstars

Both normally missed their fair share. I remember an Origin where NSW totally played us. Spoke all week about targeting Lockyer's frail defence. Locky came out with 20+ tackles and zero missed. But we lost, he was putting so much in to his defence that he had nothing left for points. Better off having Carroll & Co clean up, and let Lockyer concentrate on what he's best at.

Are people still worried about his speed?
