NEWS Milford and Bird being shopped around

Milford is the sort of player who will go and join the Storm and absolutely kill it for the next 5 years, I guarantee it. That's what's annoying about this situation.. he clearly needs a fresh start and some new scenery, but I want him to perform HERE. Maybe a complete clean out of the front office and coaching staff over the off-season will give him a new lease on life, I dunno. Something has to change though, he's stagnated so much as a player.
I dunno. Bennett couldn't get to him and he seems far too meek to deal with Bellyache ripping him to shreds.

He was phenomenal between 2015 & 2017 under Bennett. His downfall started when we moved Hunt on and Bennett tried to transition him from a runner and secondary playmaker into a primary playmaker and organiser.

It may be too late for him to transition back into a runner, hence why we're seeing him struggle so much over the last 18 months, he has no idea what to do anymore. He's caught between two styles of play and is now below average at both.

He hasn’t stagnated, he’s completely regressed to school age level.

When all is said and done, there will be only one word to describe Milford's time as a Bronco: Disappointment, and big disappointment at that. It's a tale as old as sport itself, you can have all the playing talent in the world hiding under the hood, but if you don't have motivation and conviction in equal measure to succeed, you may as well not have it at all. The engine is a monster yet the fuel tank is perpetually empty, or in Milford's case full of grease rather than fuel.

He may very well go to another club and find his mojo again and you know what, all the power to him. I just hope he is ready to be forever frowned upon for the rest of his days in his own city.

He needs a specialist halves coach to tutor and guide him through a pre season and through out the season. At the moment he is completely lost and hung out to dry by Seibold who clearly has no idea what Milford needs. It’s partially his own fault too, if I had his money I’d personally pay some money to a Cronk or Johns to help my game.

I think you are right but I also think another huge factor is he is shockingly unfit for a precessional athlete. He doesn’t need a good coach or competent admin staff to get himself fit.

Your presuming he would even want to go there to play footy. I don't think so at all. He could not handle the pressure or accountability. He loved WB because he was allowed to just play and train his way. He will end up at a club like the Dogs or the Bombers. He would go well under Barrett I think.

When you say "precessional athlete" do you mean he's transitioning from a great half to a very lazy and ordinary FB?

Man, no. He had offers from Lockyer, he turned that down. He's training with Allan Langer every bloody day. He had Benji Marshall there for a year and rumours were then that he was lazy. He's trained under Kevvy. Just no.

Those number seem implausible ... no way does anyone pay ~70% of a $975k contract.

Bird either finds himself a decent deal for $600-$700k or he should be staying in Brisbane.

All the risk is with Bird... if he is looking for us to subsidise a massively reduced contract so he can head to fucking roosters or some shit, you tell him to **** off and his manager to pull his fucking finger out or he'll be playing out the year in ISC.

He either finds himself a new deal that is palatable to the Broncos or he plays out the year with the Broncos and has zero security for 2022 onwards.

There is absolutely no positive for the broncos to release Bird for cheap just because he wants to go to a certain team... we aren't looking to trade or player swap... we want cap space and he's in his last year!!
Can someone enlighten me because I don't get how these contracts work. If bird has a player option next year but opts to go to another club why do we pay any freight. Surely he's exercised his right to leave and we're done with his contract.

No we wouldn’t have to pay if it was birds decision to leave but let me put it this way....

Why would bird leave a 800k+ a year contract for a 500-600k a year contract when he can just stay. No club is going to offer him the money he will be on next year at the broncos it would be crazy. He hasn’t played for three season.

The only other option is the broncos pay him 400k and the other team pays him 400k for the year which is the only way I can see Bird not being on our books for next year.

Another good question would be which of these playmakers will get a contract extension ON THE SAME MONEY when their current contracts finnish?
The answer to that would say a lot about a few clubs recruitment practices.

Incredible when you think about it really... in 2015 Milford was 15 seconds away from leading us to a premiership and a Clive Churchill medal.
21 years old at that point and the Rugby League world at his feet. Fast forward 5 years and he has regressed to a slow and unimaginative playmaker who has an error riddled game and no energy. He's easily in the bottom 3-4 five-eights in the NRL over consecutive seasons now and he is in the top echelon of earners. I do believe attitude and discipline is his problem, which is 90% of what makes a professional athlete.
It will be sad to see him performing at another club, but there really is no other option. His position in the team is untenable.

I don’t see Milford killing it at another club. Maybe playing better than he is now sure, kinda hard not to, but I’m not worried one bit about ending up regretting letting him go.
