Neil Henry quits Maroons post to focus on North Queensland

Not sure he had a crap team either Gymp. Still had the likes of Slater, Lockyer, Thurston, Smith, Civoniceva and Price. Just didn't have the firepower in the outside backs I suppose.

I was talking about how his Newcastle team at that time was crap except for Johns.

I wouldn't be too worried.

We'll always have one thing over NSW. Pride.

Hasnt that been all Newcastle teams but?

Ah true, my bad. I still think he was very fortunate to be coach of that 2001 team though - Johns, Kennedy, Buderus, Gidley, Tahu, MacDougall, Simpson - not all of them will go down as superstars but they were all at their peak that year.

Yeah, that's also what gymp was saying, that the 2001 premiership had very little to do with Hagan, it was everything to do with what Warren Ryan had done the previous 3 seasons to get them ready for that step and then the fact they had no serious injuries during the year.

Thanks for clarifying Coxy icon_thumbs_u

Hagan's Origin teams were dismal (harsh) IMO. It still had the players we have now but the outside backs were past it. J Hannay, Ty Williams and the like up against Gaz, Coops and King WHEN Joey is feeding them ball is no good.

A common argument in the pub by NSWelshmen down here is they would like to see how the 03/04/05 Blues team would go against the current QLD team and I agree... it would be Rugby League of epic proportions... its a shame... they only missed each other by a couple of years...

It might be a good game but this Qld team would spank them imo.

wouldn't be too sure mate - honestly they had some good names and in good form at the time. I still believe our team hasn't been able to hit top form yet... on their day I'm sure we just have the backline to blitz in but it would be the pinnacle of 'modern' rugby league in terms of spectacle post 90s football.

ur probably right but I think this Qld team's forward pack is better than the 03-04-05 vintage as well.

i would like to see this Qld team vs the Qld team of the mid-late 90s.

Then Lockyer could just pass the ball to himself to win the game. He wouldn't even needs Brett Hodgsons help
