Who should it be?

No I don't think so.
A pointer will be if the board starts to drag out the selection process and start talking to/assessing multiple candidates besides kevie and green.
Also if white has any sort of involvement that could go against kevie.
If the whole process goes well into October or beyond I would say kevie is in trouble.
They should absolutely be looking at other candidates besides just Green and Walters

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but it was said on NRL 360 last night that the board is leaning towards Green as coach because they don't want seem like they're buckling under pressure from the old boys....
It should be noted that Kent said it was just his opinion ... not that there is anything to substantiate that

Yep IF it is true (and I suspect it is as it has come from Brett Read I think), it shows these idiots running the club have learned absolutely nothing.
Came from Kent

No clue, sorry. I know he wants to coach Origin this year no matter what happens.
If he gets the job it should be on the proviso that he quits his origin job immediately... he has too much work to do

Kevin Walters has now ruled out quitting coaching Queensland at this years state of origin. Regardless of whether he lands the Broncos job or not.

Queensland coach Kevin Walters has confirmed he won't walk away from his State of Origin commitments this year if he's offered Brisbane's NRL gig.
The Broncos legend is believed to be one of two serious options for the position along with former North Queensland coach Paul Green, who orchestrated the Cowboys' 2015 NRL title.

However, with the three-week Origin series set to start on November 4, Walters said he will not be walking away from his role as Maroons coach to take up early with the Broncos.
"I'm fully committed to Origin this year," he told Big Sports Breakfast on Monday.

"We've put a lot of work into it and I'm very excited about what's going to happen in November from a Queensland point of view and that's been my driving force all year.
"I'm really looking forward to that."
Walters, who won five premierships as a player with the Broncos, has consistently said he hasn't had contact with the club over the vacancy for 2021.
However, his name is being pushed by Broncos' old boys and his potential appointment has garnered growing support.
And while the Broncos will not rush into finding a replacement for Anthony Seibold, Walters is willing to be patient in pursuit of his dream job.

Priorities Kevvie ...

Then IMO, a line through him ... who else is available

Good on Kevvie. He has been burnt too many times by showing too much enthusiasm for the role. I like the way he is playing it, he doesn't appear desperate and he doesn't appear to be willing to play the game of telling the media everything they want to hear, this is REALLY good to see.

I think it may have been a bit of both.
From memory, Bennett had suggested the club should be looking at Bellamy and asked the club to keep him informed of any progress.
The club had a meeting with Bellamy but had not told Bennett and he found out about it (through the media I think) and got the shits that they had held the meeting without telling him they were going to.
It all went pear shaped from there...
That's my recollection of the time-line anyway.

From memory I think Bennett found out through the media like you said and then used the whole “I told the broncos to chase Bellamy” line as a on the spot cover up. But he was embarrassed and rightfully got pretty salty.

Channel Nine Footy show panel was garbage last Sunday in the segment inside the ten. The panel Peter Sterling, Brent Read, Andrew Webster, and David Riccio all backed Paul Green. They mentioned he was a proven coach who had won a premiership. Of course they conveniently left out the fact Greens last three seasons with the Cowboys has been rubbish.

There was some suggestion on the panel though that Kevin Walters may work if Wayne Bennett was director. Read suggested Broncos should have a Green and Walters combination with one of them being assistant. It won't happen, both would likely bork at being assistant for each other and not named head coach.

Fair point. I can see a bright side to this. That it doesn't leave the QRL and the Queensland players in limbo, with the Broncos mulling around whether to give Kevin Walters the job.

My recollection, for what it’s worth, is Bennett initially went to White and suggested he should consider a succession plan for when he, Bennett, finished. White then went and contacted Bellamy without confiding in Wayne and so it all started from that point. I believe Wayne wanted to be a part of implementing that plan but was left out.

I think the coaching pool is pretty shallow.
Who would you suggest?

as previously stated, my first preference is Shaun Wane (former Wigan coach, current England coach)

but I don't know every rugby league coach in the world, so there may be other options ... the obvious choice is not necessarily the best choice

Yeah but he shouldn’t have got punted.
Gould dumped him because he was worried Cleary would go over to his old man at the tigers.
Panthers would be going just as well as they are now if he was still around.

According to Andrew Webster there is more to it in terms of Anthony Griffin departure with Penrith. Which is why he is not in favor of Griffin getting the Dragons job.

The problem with the Andrew Webster article is he disregards the players who support Griffin (Trent Merrin, Corey Norman and Ben Hunt). But is happy to take Ben Hannant's word which its well known he fell out favor during his time with Griffin at the Broncos and may have an axe to grind.

If not for Anthony Griffin, the Brisbane Broncos probably would have signed Cameron Smith 20 years ago.

As the eyes and ears of the fledgling Melbourne Storm in Brisbane, Griffin identified at junior and school carnivals what the Broncos' talent scouts had missed: a versatile hooker with a calm head and superstar potential.

The Storm got their man and, weirdly, the Broncos are trying to entice Smith into one final season at the age of 37 instead of giving him a farewell tour as a one-club legend.

Griffin's football judgement has never been in doubt but there's a yawning difference between identifying young talent, even coaching it, and stepping up to NRL level.

On that score, he has failed at both Brisbane and Penrith. It is inconceivable that St George Illawarra are even entertaining the idea of making him their head coach from next year. But this is the Dragons so, of course, they are.

The problem with rugby league is things happen so fast that it's easy to develop amnesia. The churn of the news cycle means seasons, scandals and sackings blur into one.

People have forgotten why Penrith sacked Griffin in August 2018. The narrative spun by Griffin at the time was that he had a fall-out with then-general manager Phil Gould. Make no mistake: the pair had fallen out spectacularly by then, having not spoken for five months.
But the truth is that Gould had done his best for almost a year to suppress the unhappiness of the playing group, who quickly lost respect for the coach.

Those murmurs had started at the 2017 World Cup, which is always a hotbed of gossip among players away from their clubs and in the company of good mates.
By the time the first week of the 2018 NRL season rolled around, the noise about Griffin losing the dressing room was deafening.
Gould strongly denied it when I put it to him at the time. Perhaps he wanted to justify his decision to sign Griffin from Brisbane in the first place. Perhaps he was protecting his coach.
But, as the season progressed, it didn't take too many phone calls to too many people to figure out how unhappy that team had become under Griffin's “headmaster” style that was applied to some and not to others.
It may have worked with young players to a point, but most NRL players are adults. They didn't appreciate being spoken to like children.

As for the game plan, it could have been written on the back of a coaster: five hit-ups, kick to the corners, screw them down in defence.

Players like Viliame Kikau were sprayed if they dared pass the ball. Witness the difference in the bullocking back-rower in the last two seasons under Ivan Cleary.

Griffin's supporters — who also happen to be Gould's detractors — argue Penrith were coming fifth when he was sacked. In reality, they were coming fifth despite him.
Former Penrith five-eighth Jamie Soward said at the time of Griffin's departure: “At some stages throughout this year, they've played with some of the most boring game plans in the first half that I've seen from any side and only started playing their normal style or the style they're comfortable with once they're behind.”

It was a similar story at the Broncos, where things started well in 2011 in Darren Lockyer's final year but then deteriorated into mediocrity soon after.
“Playing under him for four years were probably the toughest four years of my footy career and I was surprised he lasted this long,” former Broncos prop Ben Hannant said. “It came to the point after two or three years of doing that with the game plan that he had, man management, the way he did things, it was amateurish.”
Hopefully, Dragons directors and chief executive Ryan Webb will make some calls before they consider appointing Griffin. Their next move is one of the most significant in the club's recent history.
Some board members are said to favour David Furner, although he has also been sacked from his last two head coaching positions at Canberra and Leeds.

Others prefer interim coach Dean Young to work under Griffin. If that's the model they're considering, wouldn't it be better to keep assistant coach Shane Flanagan? At least he's won something.
It's little surprise three of Griffin's former players — Trent Merrin, Corey Norman and Ben Hunt — have said publicly that their old coach would be great for the club.
All three are fighting for the contracts, even their careers. Sorry, but they are not the future of the Red V. Neither is Anthony Griffin.

I don't know if it's genuinely a 2 horse race, but if it is KW just helped the Board with their decision.
He has effectively said the Origin job is ore important than the Broncos job, and that just pushes the Board in Green's direction.
If KW really does want the Broncos job, it was a very silly thing to say.
