Next Broncos coach

Who should it be?

Can't believe Griffin got a 2 year contract with the Dragons as head coach. He must be the most over-rated coach in the NRL. Lost the players' dressing room @ both the Broncos and Penrith....just join the dots. Dragons board are so dumb. Mind you, that's what I thought about Gus when he signed Griffin to Penrith.

Mate that is utter BS on both accounts.

If Bennett gets the QLD job I hope we publicly apologise as a club to get him on board somehow. He could sway some Queenslanders to play for us.
How so... he coached England - not much swaying from there.

I don't think he ever lost the dressing room here. He just couldn't get the team to go to the next level, plus he made some really weird selections (the way he used Hoffman and Barba were bizarre).

As for Penrith, I won't pretend to have followed them that closely at the time, but I do remember that before Hook was sacked the Panthers absolutely capitulated against us. This was following on from a series of come from behind wins where they were looking very shaky for long periods before pulling it together in the last 15 minutes.

Based on media reporting, it sounds like Hook has a personality that rubs some people the wrong way. Some of those people are players (i.e. Hannant was pretty scathing in his assessment of him), while others are coaches (Gould, the assistants at Penrith at the time).

In any case, I'm happy Hook has got another chance to prove he can coach and I'm even happier that it's not at my club.

With potentially a very short turnaround between series if Origin stays mid-season next year, it makes sense for Walters to hand over the reigns and get Bennett to take over and run both this series and 2021 then probably decide on a permanent option after we see how Bennett goes with two series in an 7-8 month period.

If the Broncos aren't going to entertain a return of Bennett in another capacity then the QRL probably should. He might be happy coaching Origin for a few more years then moving into a consultancy role in the longer run.

Couple of years early for George Williams, the only player we needed, to come to Australia

you might have heard of them ... The South Sydney Rabbitohs

from the sounds of things any QLD appointment for Bennett will be a short term 1 year deal, because they don't want someone unfamiliar with the systems coming in at short notice for this years series
Fair enough, thought Bennett’s contract was finishing with them this year. If he does well they will want to keep him.

Bennett's contract ends after 2021 and Demetriou takes over.

I actually suspect this helps Bennett's Origin chances long term as he would likely have been getting Demetriou to take on a greater role at Souths over the course of 2021 anyway.

I think Bennett's plans moving forward may be similar to what he's doing at Souths now.

Come in as a senior coach for a couple years with the intention of an assistant taking over.

It's what he proposed to the Broncos board for him with JD, and it's what is happening at souths. There were also reports of the dogs making an approach to Bennett coming in with Ennis as an assistant and eventually taking over.

It makes sense for Bennett to come in as a guy that can right the ship, get the football department setup with pathway systems and oversee development of a new head coach.

Kind of like a 2yr consultancy at the club to get them setup and on the right track before moving to the next.

You would probably just look to limit his involvement in recruitment and retention, given he wont have a long stay at the club, but other than that he could be a good option to get things moving whilst providing instant credibility to a club

Are you suggesting Bennett and Nolan peacefully co-exist?

Unlikely to occur at Broncos nowadays... more like a struggling team, say the warriors, that hire Bennett to oversee and revamp their football department for 2 years and bring through an assistant to take over.

So it wouldn't occur at the Broncos, only at a struggling team?

I find it laughable and shameless that the current board who oversaw the Seibold disaster can be trusted to oversee the appointment of the new coach.

Surely a bit of embarrassment kicks in at some point and you resign and salvage something from the situation?

I obviously loved Lockyer as a player but my disdain grows for him by the day.

This board has no shame, no embarrassment, no accountability, no responsibility, no idea and no fucken brains!
