Next Broncos coach

Who should it be?

The silence coming out of the Broncos had me hoping they were taking to Bellamy. If they are, then the broncos mole has struck again. Ffs, I want whoever it is to stop talking to the media, he/she needs to be sacked.

I reckon it is someone very high up.

I love the idea.
12 month 'interim' appointment of Kevvie; with his persona, love for the club and attitude to help re-shape the culture and bring smiles back to the players faces.
Then bring in Bellamy 2022 and keep Kevvie on-board as his assistant with the end-goal to transition him into a permanent head coach after a few years under Bellamy; where the club should be dominant and feared once again.
Personally, if the club can make this happen it will start to re-build what is a fractured relationship with us fans.

No one is going to accept those terms to be a head coach for a year and then assistant for an unspecified time and then maybe head coach again later.

CEO level you might think?
Would make sense for White to leak it because it would only reinforce the incompetence of the negotiations last time if a new CEO was able to get Bellamy over the line this time.

Anyone else feel these coaching stories (Wayne, Bellamy) are just smokescreens so the board can actually interview the candidates without too much fanfare?
Bellamy is never happening and when you read the story it's basically a few lines about the possibility of him joining 2022 and then nothing else

How bout as director of football type roll , have him oversee Kevie/ Hodges and hopefully Smith.

That would certainly be a big test for Ben Ikin. If he was prepared to dismiss Wayne Bennett coming back for no personal reasons and only because Kevvie doesn't need a Coaching Director and needs free reign to make his own calls, it would be fascinating to see if he changed his tune if that Coaching Director was Craig Bellamy instead.

I like the idea but I doubt this board is even capable of doing that without letting it slip to the media

My take on this whole question of "Coaching Director" is that these days a Head Coach is a coaching director, with competent assistants doing the real hands-on work, what Gentle said in his recent interview where he said just that.

If I was Walters, I would not want Big Brother trying to vet my decisions as head coach. A waste of money. Better to appoint a class set of specialist assistant coaches.

Yeah, so basically having Kevie, Hodges and Smith as assistants. I'm down with that

I think you'd find Bennett or Bellamy's value to the club would be to more oversee the football side of the operation. That would include oversight of the NRL Head Coach and their Assistants but also of our development staff, NRLW Coaching, scouting, recruitment and retention, our relationship with out feeder sides etc

That I could live with easily. Head of Football, but not Coaching Director, and with limits to how the Head of Football can intervene in Head Coach decisions. I am remembering Gould at Penrith

I'm sure both Bennett and Bellamy are well aware that their role would change if they took on something like this. If either of them had any desire to still be a Head Coach there is no reason to come to the Broncos and take a role like this when they're two of the most in demand Coaches in the game and could just go on and continue to get paid an absolute fortune to Coach pretty much any club in the NRL. If they're looking for a different role at Brisbane then it's fair to say they've decided to go in a new direction career-wise and they have both earned the right to get the benefit of the doubt that they will know the difference.

I get that loud and clear. I also get what I both understand about Wayne, from what he has said, and from what I have read: he would find it hard to keep out of the dressing room. He loves coaching, he loves his players, he loves the game, hands-on. As for Bellamy, he has stated publicly that he wants to give up the demands of head coach after his contract at the Storm finishes. Somehow, I doubt that.

Having said that, I feel Bennett would make the perfect Head of Football at the Broncos, and if he decided to transition to that role as the next step in his illustrious career, I would be all for it. As well, I doubt any head coach would oppose the positive influence of someone like Wayne inspiring players in the dressing room given a positive working relationship between the two.

What some people simply do not understand is people like kevvie are winners , they want to be the guy and wont tolerate having someone looking over their shoulder.
Maybe someone like Hodges would but there is **** all chance we go for a first year rookie.
Griffin looks the pea for the Saints job which leaves us where we started. Kev or Green.
Green apparently got the Cowboys job with a killer PowerPoint presentation and we know how our board loves those.
