Well for a start, three minutes is an eternity in the NFL. The Saints still had all three timeouts and the two minute warning. The Niners may have gotten a field goal, but given the way the Saints defense was playing on the fourth quarter, that might be wishful thinking. Let's not forget that Kaepernick had his own chance to win it or at least force overtime and couldn't manage even a single first down. But, okay, the Niners get a field goal, get up by six. They still likely leave time for Brees and Payton, to have another shot, and now they're playing for the TD, not a field goal - although to be fair when they were only playing for the field goal Brees still was slinging it, including a gorgeous twenty yard strike to Colston. But I'm sure as you say the vaunted Niners defense that had only given up almost 400 yards on the day would have held....

But in the end this is all hypothetical because the correct call was made and the Saints finished a game the Niners couldn't.

3 minutes with the 49ers in possession and 3 points up, small but important detail, as it would've likely cost the Saints their timeouts. After that, anything was possible, but most unbiased people agree that the 49ers would probably have won the game from there.

Correct call? Is that because Brees said that he was it so hard, it had to be a flag? Well, that says it all...

Go back and count the changes in possession of the Saints-Pats game in the last three minutes, and then talk to me about how big of a difference it is.

It's not just Ray Lewis, it's pretty much everyone who has a voice in the NFL, even ex-QB's are embarrassed by Brees whine about being hit hard.

I know 3 minutes can be a long time in NFL, but it can also be managed to a single drive by a good team. Seen it plenty of times!

But let's not go in circles, you won this time, we'll send you packing come playoff time... if we get there after seeing victory taken from us by the refs! :thefinger:

The league office fined Brooks so there's pretty much no argument now to say it was the wrong call - by the rule book, it was illegal and called correctly. Incidentally, Akiem Hicks made a very similar hit on Matt Ryan tonight which absolutely should have been called, but was missed by the refs, and I'd be pissed if I were Ryan or a Falcons fan. I'd expect him to get a similar fine to Brooks.
