Nine and Fox Sports to retain NRL rights

More of the same shit.

At least the schedule is set for the first 20 rounds.

Why not the entire draw.

So the money side of things looks fantastic, and probably a bit better than the first reactions anticipated.

However, the coverage is more or less the same old.

Someone summed it up nicely on another forum...

The fans won't see any money

We wanted better access to games

We got the same old shit

Best of both worlds.

Not only do we get the majority of the season laid out relatively early, we'll also get the most important games given the best TV slots to ensure maximum interest.

Great move IMO.

The biggest issues related to TV scheduling were:
1. Uncertainty about when games would be played (75% solved)
2. Impact of State of Origin on clubs (unresolved)
3. Delayed games (unresolved)
4. Lack of free to air content (I'm not convinced 2 hours of unspecified "content" every night on a digital channel resolves that)
5. Need to support expansion (Grant has basically poo pood expansion by saying no value in a 9th game)

In short, other than a bucketload of cash which was a given anyway, this deal is meaningless and a failure.

Aside from the money, the only positive is the fixed schedule. Other than that, it's just as shit as it is now.

Must say I'm pretty disappointed. It's like the NRL just wanted to get the 1 Billion $ and sacrificed any say in the scheduling. Bit like after the super league war and packer said "its like this or nothing at all". Maybe with the 7&10 deal they might've made less money but had a lot more control.
The only positive out of this deal is the fixed schedule and thats it.

Channel 9 can get ****ed.

I want them ALL live.

With shitty coverage, idiot players and the worst refs in any sport in the world, rugby league is slowly being removed from my give a shit list. They don't give a **** about the fans, just ****ing money.

And you have the hide to call me negative.

Let's get fair dinkum here. I am posting my opinion of a news story. You troll the Internet looking to post negative stories on the forum.

How about you both pack it in. Don't ruin an important thread with your personal feud.

Obviously the telecast arrangement is disappointing but let's put it into perspective here.

The 2005 TV Rights deal was $500 million for 6 years.

The 2012 TV Rights deal is $1.025 billion for 5 years and the NZ, digital & internet rights are yet to be finalised just yet.

That figure can easily increase to $1.25 billion.

We've got a fixed schedule for the first 20 rounds, nationwide coverage plus 9 & Fox have relinquished their first and last rights.

The game is in the money & is about to get a whole lot better.

Exciting times ahead. :D
