Nine and Fox Sports to retain NRL rights

1 live FTA game.

I guess it means the fans are just going to have to go to games. Oh wait they're not THAT annoyed, I bet.

Either that or get Foxtel, I get lots of live games.

Either that or illegally stream it.

I'd like to see both Friday night games broadcasted live, the main game for the state on Nine, the other on their Digital channel.

kinda hard to watch both then, wouldnt you say?

my ideal situation would be this:

Friday night: 1 live (7:30pm), 1 delayed (9:30pm)
Saturday: 1 live afternoon game (3:30pm) on 9, 1 live night game (5:30pm or 7:30pm) on Gem/whatever HD channel
Sunday: 1 live afternoon game (2pm) on Gem/HD, 1 Live game (3:30pm) on 9

Monday night footy can FOAD, and the other games can be on foxtel.

My ideal...

Friday
7:30pm - Nine

Saturday
5:30pm - Fox
7:30pm - Fox
7:30pm - Nine

Sunday
2:00pm - Fox
2:00pm - Nine
4:00pm - Nine
6:00pm - Fox

Sweet as.

That would be excellent. Heck I'd be happy with 3 FTA live games and fox have the rest.

The idea was to give the viewer a choice as to which game they prefer to watch live, and not force the Broncos on everyone in Qld or the Dragons on everyone in NSW. The other can always be broadcast as a replay (or for those who have a DVR, watch the recording).

In an ideal world, I'd go with BP's suggestion.

first part is irrelevant. i go to most broncs home games. i still want to be able to watch other games live, particularly the sunday afternoon game. although for some and maybe alot of 'fans' it might be true.

current living situation doesnt allow for foxtel, but will be getting it before next season (solely to watch nrl, and to some extent *cough*afl*cough* - yes i enjoy both codes).

if they had a paid nrl streaming service i would sign up for it in a heart beat.

streams have been my friend.

Oh god, forgot The Footy Show is going to be given a saloon passage for 5 more years of rubbish.

Senile Rabs and Hadley still calling games.

****.

Apparently Channel 10 offered to show Live NRL on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday but it was for less money.

Not sure if it's been mentioned but the deal has also sewn up QCup coverage on Channel 9 for the next 5 years. They're not perfect but their QCup coverage this year has been very good.

It is great for Qcup it will keep the comp strong. How silly is it that the QLD cup will have as many live games on FTA as the NRL.

- The Broncos are likely to play every home match on a Friday night. If they don’t like it, “I don’t care,” says Gyngell, “they’re going to do quite well out of the money they’re going to get from us.”

Gyngell........you arrogant wanker.

How about trying to give RL fans what they want for a change. It's not all about the money to the average man in the street.......

I don't mind them giving us every Friday night as long as they reward us for our tv numbers financially. I do however have a big issue with someone in a position of power in the game saying something as unprofessional and arrogant as this.

+1. What an assy thing to say...

On the TV deal, very disappointed we didn't get something like the AFL with all 8 games simulcast live but oh well....

One billion with more to come is a huge thing for the game, the salary cap can easily rise by up to 4 million (effectively double) with an extra $180 million to spare on top of what we had in the last deal. That's with the NRL lifting the club grants to match the salary cap which would cover the $800,000 or so that clubs need to make themselves currently.

I'm really hoping for a great digital/online deal. RL needs to be on top of that area as it's a huge part of any entertainment industry moving forward. I would love for Telstra or someone similair to stream all games so I can watch them on my computer, I'd pay up to $20 p/m for it too.
