NRL 2022 Grand Final Discussion

I like a lot of your input but seriously.....

Take your afl crap to an afl forum... it's forced down our throats enough already, don't need to read about it when I'm on a RUGBY LEAGUE forum about the national RUGBY LEAGUE grand final ffs

For once, I didn't bring it up, I did happily respond though.

And yeah, all those points from a GF flogging to talk about...glad I didn't waste my time on it.

Well Parra without Mahoney and Ipap will go back to being non-contenders, likely scraping the bottom of the 8 if they're lucky. You'd think (and pray) that Penrith also fall back a bit without Api and Kikau.

I'd also throw Niukore in there as well. They rely on his inside runs for quick play the balls to get Brown over the advantage line. The other two are certainly more valuable, but he's another loss in the scheme of things.

With Nathan Brown seemingly on the outer, I'm not sure if they have a ready made replacement for him.

Well at least there is no danger of a three-peat. I have it on good authority the Titans are winning the premiership next year!

In all seriousness, I wish the Cowboys made the GF instead just so I could get somewhat invested in the game, god that was boring. Typical of the NRL this year though with some pretty dubious officiating as well.

BHQers, it’s been a while. Disgrace of a season from my Tigers. As bad as the joint venture has been over the years, this was the first time we received the wooden spoon. Sad times.
That first half by Penrith was unbelievable. Not sure I’ve seen a grand final team play better than that - maybe the Roosters in 2018. Congrats to the riff for winning not just first grade, but Reggies, Flegg, & SG Ball as well. Regardless of what you think of him, you’ve got to give Phil Gould credit for his part in turning that club into a Powerhouse.

I too would’ve been very invested in seeing the Cows get beaten instead

The To'o try in the second half.

Moses is making no attempt to chase the ball and slide. He makes the decision to tackle Kikau, who is trying to avoid contact, and initiates contact to try and milk a penalty.

If he doesn't try to tackle Kikau, he doesn't even get impeded.

If he doesn't hang the arm out, Kikau runs straight through the line without issue.

It's an obstruction if:

At no point does Kikau initiate contact.

Moses can't have his cake and eat it too. He's made the decision to tackle Kikau, which is a defensive decision. He didn't have to tackle him, he chose to. He can't then claim he's been taken out after making the decision to tackle a player. It does not work that way.

As for the "knock on".

At which point does this ball go forward?

Video and screenshot shows it going towards Panthers try line.

People are saying it's a knock on because he's facing Parra's try line, but he's not.

Both of them were correct calls. Channel 9 were adamant they were huge blunders, but it's a very different story on Fox League. But now because of the carry on from Channel 9, there's outrage over what were correct calls.

The people that think they're wrong, show me the rule that says Moses is still obstructed despite making the decision to tackle the player. Show me the rule that says Cleary's strip is considered to be a knock on.

Including Oregon Kaufusi leaving... he seems a Nathan Brown type albeit young and inexperienced

nah not controversial at all, you just needed a half dozen screen grabs and 6 long winded paragraphs to say why it was a straightforward correct call.

God what a absolutely boring way to showcase the end of our NRL season. Penrith were given way too much leeway by Klien to make this a contest worthy of a Grand Final.

I feel our game really sucks a big one right now. I have lost so much interest in the game as a whole. Wish to God they'd get rid of the 6 again rule and allow 'lesser' teams to even the game up by playing to their strengths.

I don't want to see a fast game if it means one team is 28 nil in front with most of the second half to go. I just wanted the game to end it was so boring knowing what the final outcome was going to be.

I hope they also make it mandatory that players who lay down for a penalty need to go off for a 15 minute HIA whereas players ordered off only need serve a 10 minute HIA if they pass it.

Not reading that man, have a good monday you dork.

Yep that game was average for a normal club game.
Parra just didn't get physical. Far too much using forwards as first receivers instead of smashing through the front door.
For sure Penrith got all the 50 50s but Parra had the wrong tactics.
A slight turning point in the first half was Parra kicking on tackle 2 after doing so much defence, WTF .
Penrith easily return it and kick down to the 10 and set up camp for the rest of half.

The Kikau obstruction wasn’t a turning point but snuffed out any hope for Parra and absolutely was an obstruction all year. Defensive decisions were made because Moses couldn't slide, forget about sticking his arm out , kikau can't be there, end of.

We can only hope the actual rules come into play next year and they stamp out Penriths 3rd man flop defender joining the tackle late to slow things down.

I've never heard so many people disgruntled with the state of play but clearly nobody is listening.

Good point re: the late flop. The Riff raff got pinged once for it the whole game yet they executed the ploy at least 20 times when they needed to slow the ruck down and Klien found nothing wrong with this tactic when the Riff employed it. Conversely, he seemed to hammer the Eels if they so much as laid a hand on the tackled player.
