NRL 2023 Finals Week 3 Discussion

Cleary going walk about and not even checked along with Evan being flat on the ground and then wobbling all the way to the side line but then being cleared just continues to make the HIA system a farce.
The appearance of player welfare > actual player welfare.

Cant take Cleary out of the finals, the Fans would be upset!

But still have to have token HIA's so the lawyers are happy.

I have no idea how Egan was not a Cat 1... he was down on the ground for ages and then completely groggy walking to the sideline.

Did they sack the independent doctor this finals series or something??

It would seem they have managed to avoid any 11-day stand downs heading into the GF... won't be surprised if they get ahead of things and put a bye-round before the GF heading into next year, but that makes the season even longer

He didn't get knocked out or stumble when trying to get up would be the reasoning.

Went back and checked what was happening with NAS-Kenny. So NAS seemed to be taking it upon himself to constantly drag players off the tackle. He did it on the first set against Yeo and got away with it only for Kenny to double leg him when he tried it the next set.

Honestly should have been a penalty against the Storm. Every team does it but it's one thing to drive your team mates, another to grab and fling the defenders off of tackles.

As far as Cleary, you guys be the judge.

Who is he offering the ball to? Completely normal behaviour.

He was clearly dazed there. I dont get how anyone can really say somebody shouldnt have done some kind of check on him.

The thing is though, and its what some people dont seem to get, contact with the head doesnt always result in getting knocked out or even making you groggy straight away. You can get a smack in the head and you dont start feeling it until a little while later, or it can be instantaneous. Any doctor worth his salt in the modern game is getting a player checked out with any kind of forceful head contact. Players will generally try to get up and pass it off as nothing because they know the consequences and they dont want to come off the field.

If the NRL are serious about player welfare, players hit in the head need to be checked.
