CROSS FORUM NRL 2023 Round 24 Discussion

Manly looked shot at the end. Was it really a leg-up game from the refs?
Manly have nobody but themselves to blame. After the Garrick kick they just came up with mistake after mistake and half their team looked out of their depth.

Still, Sutton was very generous towards Penrith in the ruck and gave them far more leeway than the Sea Eagles. The Panthers try right on half-time also looked incredibly dodgy.

I don't understand this part. Did you mean more leeway than Manly? Or generous towards Manly?

It's funny how Penrith fans go on about Brisbane only leaving Queensland a handful of times. Brisbane have seven games outside of Queensland on their draw.

Guess how many games Penrith have had outside of NSW?

Seven.

Two more than last year.

That's including Canberra which is less than 300km away.

But sure, Brisbane to Townsville is only a stone's throw away...

We want another Queensland side, but we don't want the Broncos to have more games in Queensland!!

Now here’s a question to discuss before next game tomorrow, who would you pick for team of the year? For me, probably something like:

1. Walsh (Broncos)
2. Watene-Zelezniak (Warriors)
3. Staggs (Broncos)
4. Crichton (Panthers)
5. Isaako (Dolphins)
6. Dearden (Cowboys)
7. Johnson (Warriors)
8. Haas (Broncos)
9. Koraisau (Tigers)
10. Fonua-Blake (Warriors)
11. Fifita (Titans)
12. Martin (Panthers)
13. Carrigan (Broncos)

14. Walker (Warriors)
15. Burgess (Rabbitohs)
16. Sorensen (Panthers)
17. ??

Alex johnson worth a shout for a wing spot

Penrith received more leeway in the ruck. There were a lot of tackles where the tackle had been complete, only for the defender blatantly re-grip on the ground and deny Manly any momentum in the ruck.
Not to mention the third man flop all night that was never pinged.

Flegler gets called twice a game for what they did all night.

The 1-5 are bang on for mine, although Edwards unlucky. 6 is tough mainly because Munster and Walker have both been below par whereas Dearden has been pretty consistent. 7 bang on as well. I think you could make a serious argument for Egan in the 9 tbh. It's great that it's not so clear cut this year. No room for Tino or Mo?

Yeah all fair arguments. My bench is actually bench players most weeks but if you wanted your bench to be four starters then yep, Tino 100% is in there. Mo is also under discussion for sure. And for 9 yep, you could even add Robson and honestly, Walters too into that discussion.

This deserves its own thread.

I'd have Herbie before Kotoni and Tago before Crichton. Graham, Timoko, Val, Gagai, Best would also be in the mix.

I'd find room for one of the Panthers back three as well. They're just so crucial to their team with Turuva especially being another break-out player.

The only player I vehemently disagree with is Koroisau. Even though Grant has been inconsistent, he's been a crucial part of Melbourne's success. Whereas Koroisau took ages to get going, had a handful of good games, got his jaw shattered and has only just started playing. Api has been good on return, but he's still in a wooden spoon side. I'd take Grant, Egan, Marshall-King, Robson and Cook over him.

I'd have ?? > Burgess too just quietly. The Dally M only recongises one interchange player and I think Walker is a decent shout. That's coming from somebody who hasn't really rated him since he won a premiership.

Its been a good season to have so many under consideration and all your points are totally valid. On the back three, who would you be taking our of my side to bring in one of the Panthers back three? They are all excellent but I just don't see any of them replacing who is there.
