Bai made his debut for the Gold Coast the previous season, Brett Kimmorley in 3 seasons in first grade had 16 appearances to his name. Scott Hill 23 in 2 seasons, Matt Geyer 6, they weren't seasoned compaigners at their peak. Yes the Storm had a better squad on paper but they were still a very inexperienced side and the expectations weren't for them to make the eight.Melbourne were an offshoot of Super League and gained all the players from Perth and Hunter who were now defunct. They had guys like Lazo, Noddy, Bai, Hill, Geyer etc. They had massive advantages that most expansion franchises don't enjoy.
Redcliffe are a team of misfits, has been and never will be's. Yet they are still hanging around. They have massive deficiencies and have no business winning a single game. Yet they may win enough to clinch a playoff berth. It's a real feel good RL story in the making.
BTW I'm not trying to take anything away from the dolphins, I'm merely saying that they might be able to achieve what the Storm did in the first season and make the finals.
