...meanwhile listening to some of the absolute dumbest people in society try and talk about football.

Yeah, absolutely this! I think some of the dumbest people I've ever encountered have been at the football, and they're always the loudest as well.

I'm with you, I'm afraid, my tolerance for the crowds and all the associated inconveniences has swiftly declined the older I get. But weirdly enough, though I generally prefer to watch on TV, being subjected to sports broadcasts without a live crowd this past year has really shown me their value in creating an atmosphere, even if I'm safely insulated from it in my loungeroom. So long live the crowd, I suppose, just as long as I'm not a part of it!

Suncorp is great, but I honestly hate going to the footy now in hindsight, and I was a ticketed member for about 4 years.

Now disclaimer is that I hate people, and not super keen on being around a huge crowd if I can help it

But you sit in the cold (in winter) only ever at night, be early enough to get to your seat before the rush, or be one of those people that get daggers from everyone trying to get halfway into a row just as the game starts. Then every time you or someone wants to leave you have to swivel or stand up to let them get past, taking focus off the game and the same for when they return. (I never left my seat personally to go do anything ever)

Miss parts of the game to either go to the toilet or get food or drinks. Wait for other people’s drinks to be inevitably spilled on or near you. Unless you have great viewing seats, only see one side of the action if that, meanwhile listening to some of the absolute dumbest people in society try and talk about football. Then when the game finishes, squeeze through the bottleneck exits and wait in line for a bus, walk to either Milton or Roma St and hope you’re home sometime before 11pm.
All this is true but I take all of these things for fleeting moments like Kemp’s match winner against the Eels or Milfs winning field goal. I don’t do drugs but the rush in that moment is unbeatable.

True and I guess didn’t really cover the positives, and one is that rush of a moment or win like that. Unfortunately those aren’t a weekly occurrence (anymore)

Unfortunately, this is also true

The best way is to enjoy Suncorp is to annoy others. Get one of those end seats next to the stairs, walk out going across the entire row to the other end seat, buy 6 beers and carry them back all the way across the entire row to your end seat making sure to spill a little bit on everyone in the row.

I know that I am biased, but nothing stirs my blood like walking in from the train and looking out over the pitch, heart rate goes up, goosebumps occur, and I know that I am at the best venue (MCG aside) to view any sport possible. Yeah last season blew chunks, but come round 1 I'll still get those eerie feelings walking and know that I am home.

@Big Pete and everyone else ...

this is what NRL CEO Andrew Abdo has said about the Cordner situation:

“We received an independent report – we are very pleased with the approach the club has taken around Boyd’s welfare, recovery and rehabilitation,” Abdo said.

“Pre-existing conditions are a subjective issue on a range of factors for athletes who are playing a tough competition for 30 weeks. From a salary-cap relief perspective, it doesn’t really matter if a player had a niggle or pre-existing condition ... if someone sustains an injury in a representative match, regardless of what happened before that, then the rules will apply.”

I just hope that they take the right lessons out of this and a player with Boyd's concussion history is prevented from taking the field for a longer period of time. If it's a matter of a player suffering two concussions and being done with for the year then so be it.

I still think someone has stuffed up severely in all of this. Whether it's the Roosters for letting him play on, the NSW staff for selecting him or the NRL for bailing the Roosters out.

How long did Cordner last in that game? Tin foil hat says they threw him on for just enough time to rort this loophole...

65 minutes, after coming off in the 18th minute.

Conspiracy theory somewhat diminished.
Except he was able to return to the field after the HIA and the NSW doctors cleared him to play again for the series.

So did he actually get a concussion (it sure looked like it) or did the NSW doctors fudge the report to get him back into the series.

Roosters dont care because their crash test dummy of a captain has just given them a $350k boost to the cap.... although given their cap is $20m that's a drop in the ocean.

Maybe uncle Nick has been hit hard by Covid and the roosters weekly golf trip is more like a fortnightly or monthly excursion now

My conspiracy was based on the Roosters breaking the rules to dodge (what exists for them) the cap. This now sounds more like NSW disregarding safety protocols to allow him to play. Which is big, but not as outrage-inducing as Roosters cap shenanigans.
