Uncle Nick complaining that Souths are claiming Allianz Stadium is their home ground.

Uncle Nick says:

“That’s the thing, a club is saying they want to come there, that it’s their home; I won’t mention who,” Politis said.

“The point is this is our third stadium, we started with the old sports ground in 1928 and then 30 years with the old Allianz Stadium and now with the new one.

“Nobody else has played there. For a club to say we want to go there because it’s our home, it’s not their home. The Roosters are the only people that belong. That’s our true home, it’s very sacred that field.”

Why hasn't he been suspended again?

A push and between teammates is worse than assaulting a member of the public?

He's one of the boys, the boys came up through the junior ranks together. Did you know that? They all played junior football together.

Just the usual protection racket. I'm sure JDB and Dylan Walker are all good with it.

you watch the NRL suspend him for 1 week, but allow him to serve that 1 week in their round 25 clash with the Cowboys (that he hasn't been named in)

this incident is clearly less serious than saying words to someone ... that got Staggs suspended for 2 weeks. a suspension that didn't start until he was fit again

Badel reporting that a national reserve grade comp is officially dead thanks to the revolt from the QLD clubs.

However, the NRL now want to create an additional second-tier tournament in which teams from the Queensland and NSW Cups would square off in a “crossover” competition.

This additional competition would comprise approximately 30 teams from two state leagues plus teams from the Broncos, Cowboys, Titans and a new Toowoomba side.

several formats and names are still being discussed, one suggested name is "Challenge Cup"

QRL chairman Bruce Hatcher says:

“We need to refine the concept a little more, but we have proposed an FA or Challenge Cup competition where the Queensland and NSW Cup teams can crossover to play each other,” he said.

“There is not a great appetite among the 16 NRL clubs for a national reserve grade, but this can be a successful alternative.

“The Queensland and NSW Cups will have their existing competitions and this Challenge Cup competition could be played as a separate knockout league or over seven or eight rounds leading to a grand final.

“By having a Challenge Cup competition, that would enable the Broncos, Cowboys and Titans to field reserve-grade teams.

“You could have the Broncos reserve-grade side playing against the Newtown Jets in the Challenge Cup which would be great to see.

“It’s quite an exciting proposal and a very good alternative to the NRL reserve-grade model.”

“It’s possible a Challenge Cup league could come in next year, but it’s more likely to be in 2024,” he said.

“When it’s done, we would look at a five-year arrangement to test the format and iron-out any issues that are raised along the way.

“This proposal is in the greater interests of rugby league.”

^^^^ I'm not sure that QLD cup clubs would like the Broncos/Titans/Cowboys to Pull out their players for a mid-week style comp (definitely will advantage the NSW Cup teams)

Wouldn't that favour Qld clubs though?

NSW teams have 1 NRL team to a cup side so if they pull out players it isn't spread out like it would for QLD clubs.

Either way it would be a tough ask for a QLD team to go well in the competition, NSW teams have their talent centralised in each club they use, and because most of those players are full timers on pro contracts they would be expected to beat the mostly part timer QLD clubs.

I'm disappointed at no national 2nd tier league competition though, but I guess with the way each state does it being soo different there isn't a way to get them to agree to it, even if NSW moved to the affiliate model of QLD there would be way too many clubs in the league, where as just having a reserve comp with NRL teams only, would kill the lower league clubs.

they'll have both the current format in addition to this new challenge cup.

meaning that the QLD teams would be weakened for the challenge cup, while the NSW teams remain at full strength

But NSW cup teams are also still doing their league as well, they wouldn't abandon a league for a knockout competition(the teams knocked out early would get no football all year then).

This favours QLD teams in that regard, if we pull out our reserves for a game that is 1 to 2 players max for each team where as a NSW club doing the same means they lose 5 players for 1 club.

NSW Cup teams won't lose any players for this new comp. their players can play in both comps for their NSW cup teams.

Meanwhile, for the mid week comp, the QLD Cup teams that have links to the NRL teams will lose 5+ players each for the mid-week comp, then gain them back for the regular weekend fixtures (assuming their are no injuries).

the exception of course will be the The, since they actually have their own QLD Cup team.

let's use Norths as an example.

they have Tyson Gamble, Rhys Kennedy, Brendan Piakura, Xavier Willison (from out side of the Broncos top 17)

now they could all play for Norths in their regular QLD Cup fixture, but Norths would then need to find replacements as those players would all be pulled from the team to play for the Broncos in the mid-week cup comp... NSW clubs wouldn't have that problem

I get you now because I didn't read the part that said Qld NRL teams having their own team for the cup.

I think this will part of what is being proposed won't leave the planning stage, there is no way it will work properly, the team itself will only function in a knockout cup and that would require having each team to build staffing resources to deal with that only for it to last the length of a knockout comp which could end very early.

It just sounds like a fluffer put in there to make the cup sound more grand then it would be atleast on the surface to equalise the player quality gap between the NSW teams and the QLD NRL teams, because without it QLD teams are disadvantaged player quality wise due to player spread.

That said in reality any reserve players named for an NRL clash wouldn't be playing in a mid week competition I would think anyway or atleast capped on playing time.

I dont really understand what they're trying to achieve with a Tier 2 competition that isnt already being done by the qcup / nsw cup.

The original pitch was a reserve grade game as a curtain raiser for the NRL (like the good 'ol days)... except their current TV schedule does not assist this at all. What would be the point of a reserve grade game for 5.30 on a Thursday or 4.00 on a Friday... or even 6.00 on a Friday when they want punters watching the actual NRL.

Now some stupid challenge cup... why?? So they can have "Broncos" vs Newtown .... except it wont happen because Broncos are spread across 3 affiliate teams and squad depth isnt deep enough for us to have 17 players in NRL + 17 players in a Tier 2 cup team.... and what happens if a depth player like Piakura or TC get injured in this midweek nothing cup.

And what is the draw card for a midweek game between Capras and Mounties... or are they cherry picking teams to play in this cup comp.

And why are the QLD teams flagged as requiring to provide a reserve grade team, but NSWRL teams that use affiliates aren't required to.

And what about storm/warriors are they required to patch together a reserve grade team or only the QLD teams.

It just seems like a hashed together scheme to produce.... nothing of benefit.
Or do they think reserve grade titans vs mounties is suddenly a revenue stream that will rake in millions.

I’ve got an idea for a second tier comp…… an under 21s comp

Moore park is literally walking distance from Redfern, as in you cross a road and your at the stadium, not only that Souths actually have fans that would more then contribute to that stadiums bottom line, Roosters play there because there is no where else on that side of Sydney to play, the stadium is completely oversized for their paltry fanbase.

NSWRL protection racket what do you expect.

I would love to be able to go to games and see the reserve grade sides playing before the main game.

I remember watching the Colts (was it Colts?) back when Broncos played at ANZ.

I would love just one article to bring this shit to attention.
