footage has surfaced of Matt Nean who was banned for 20 years for delibrately shouldering a referee during the 2016 group 4 Grand Final.

Nean was one of 7 players sent off for the West Tamworth Lions. the game was called off 10 minutes early after the Lions were reduced to just 6 men.

he was was initially offered an 18 week suspension but that was increased to 20 years after challenging the charge at the judiciary.

Matt's brother Sean was also banned for 30 years for delibrately headbutting an opposition player and making contact with the Ref, James Brown's head. (he also received a suspended jail sentance for his actions in the match)

Matt Nean is prepared to take his case to the Supreme Court to have his ban overturned. he want's the ban overturned so he can watch his son's play and possibly work towards coaching in the juniors.

Matt's lawyer requested that the NSWRL review the verdict. but they have refused.

after seeing the footage myself, if that's what he got banned for it was an absolute disgrace. it didn't even get remotely close to deserving the initially offered 18 week suspension, let alone the 20 years that he ended up with.

check out the footage for yourself here:

He doesn't even make contact with the ref. It was a rubbish ban.

He had history with refs though and that went against him. Still, he brushes by the ref and at no point does he make contact with the ref.

If anything the ref should get 20 years for being a bitch. Hope he sues them.

No if anything the ref initiated contact.

Because he was one of the few administrators in world sport who fought to keep the game alive and playing through the peak hysteria of early COVID. He has made some fucking horror changes and stupid decisions, but we can't downplay how big a part he played in keeping the 2020 season alive.
Alive or ...start a few weeks earlier than other sports at the cost of hundreds of millions in future earnings.

Those other sports don't start without him doing what he did. Can bag him for many of his shit ideas all you like, but he was fantastic through COVID.

It looked like there was probably up to 3 molecules of actual contact... well deserved suspension.

With the Dylan Brown contract, was there any figures released? Haven't seen anywhere how much it was.

I know a bit about country footy and while 20 years is rough the 7 second clip doesn’t give you context regarding how out of control that game had become or the players history of far more extreme offences.

Go on then, what is the history because I didn't read any in the articles I saw.

Are you fucking kidding me?

ban the referee for 20 years for being a liar.

Maybe the judiciary thought he was tpj or tommy Flegler?

Not mentioned in the article is that his team forfeited the game because they had 7 players sent off. His brother was convicted of assault from an incident in the same game.

That particular incident is horseshit, but the bloke is scum and shouldn't be anywhere near a footy field.

Is there video footage of the other 6 send offs? We have all seen what constitutes a send off in that refs eyes.

At the cost of millions in future earnings. Who cares if others copied him and even that is debatable, other sports around the world had already restarted. The AFL was already also in discussions to get up and running, so it isn’t like he was doing anything other sports weren’t.

Even so, let’s say for argument’s sake you are right, by being patient, the other sports, especially the direct competition in the AFL benefitted by delaying AND now have a MASSIVE new tv rights on the back of it, despite according to ratings apparently, having an inferior product.

There is just no way you can cut that him getting a two or three week jump on other sports was good in retrospect.

But humour me, what wonderful things did he apparently do during Covid?

The fact is during Covid everybody was FORCED to watch on tv, there was no other option. The tv contract should have been a golden egg layed by a diamond encrusted goose. He decided to take it to cash converters instead.
