NRL Player Movement and Rumours 2016

Re: NRL Player Movements and Rumours 2016

Munster re-signs until the end of 2019.

Great signing, I expect him to become a mainstay in the Queensland side for years to come. Wouldn't be surprised if he's the best fullback in the world by 2018.

Peats to Titans for the remainder of this season and 2017, confirmed by the club. Good signing. They'll have a relatively handy squad when healthy next season. Peats is a massive upgrade on Friend, and Elgey is an upgrade on Roberts.

It's a far cry from when they would sign disgraced players or overrated media personalities (still surprised Wolfman and Daine Laurie never got a look in). If I was Neil Henry, I would make sure to ease Peats into the side. If he plays his cards right, he could have a franchise number nine on his hands, which is something the Titans haven't had since Friend had younger legs.

Olive, Kelly, Bernard, Tuisau, Cartwright, Fauid, Lelesiuao etc. coming through. If they can continue to make smart purchases and identify quality up and coming talent, they will recover under Caravan's guidance.

On other transfer news, looks like Souths and Penrith have all but organised a player swap. Chris Grevsmuhl will begin his Panthers deal earlier than expected, while one of the Jennings brothers, most likely Robert Jennings, will go to Souths. I think it's a good deal for both clubs. Grevsmuhl has looked lost and unmotivated this year, a move to the foot of the mountains should motivate him as he looks to make a good first impression. Then you've got Robert Jennings, the youngest brother of the Jennings family, who plays a lot like his older brother. After losing Olive, Souths were short on backs, so Jennings signing provides them with an attacking weapon they so desperately need.

The Wests Tigers released Jack Buchanan to the Widnes Vikings. The most interesting aspect of this move is the amount of players the Tigers have let go, particularly in the forwards. Over the past year they've lost Sitaleki Akauola, Nathan Brown, Jack Buchanan, Salesi Funaki, Keith Galloway, Lamar Liolevave, Matthew Lodge, Billy McConnachie, Jesse Parahi, Brendan Santi and Matt Woods...

and that's just in the forward pack.

Taylor will have to hope that the likes of Felise, B. Sironen, Tatola, Cassell, Graham etc. actually kick on.

E Taylor will be worth all of those losses combined. Exactly what they need.

His acquisition is certainly a good start.

What I find interesting is that in cases like Brown, Liolevave, Funaki and Woods is that they all had big raps on them and yet they didn't receive much of a look in.

Either Taylor has made a great assessment or these players simply don't have any faith in him as a coach.

Marika Koroibete will leave the Storm next season and join Melbourne Rebels.

I'm not sold on Mbye at all yet.

When the Bulldogs are under pressure or don't have the momentum Mybe has nothing. I love Klemmer though he is awesome.

The Vodafone Warriors have confirmed centre Konrad Hurrell has today been released from his contract.

The 24-year-old Hurrell, who was contracted to the end of the 2018 season, leaves the club after making 71 NRL appearances since his debut in 2012.

“After discussions between Konrad, his management (Inventus Sports) and us we’ve reached a mutual agreement for him to be released now,” said Vodafone Warriors managing director Jim Doyle.

“We would like to thank Konrad for his contribution since coming into our development system. He has been a popular member of the club and we wish him all the best for the future.”

Hurrell said he had mixed emotions at first about leaving the Vodafone Warriors but was now excited as he looked forward to the rest of his career.

“I will always be thankful to the Vodafone Warriors for all they have done for me and the way they have helped me develop as a rugby league player,” he said.

“I’m grateful to all the boys I have played alongside, all the people at the club and also the members and fans.”

Hurrell made three NRL appearances this year, the last of them against Manly on April 3.

If he does go to the Titans, they are potentially assembling quite a decent squad, shame they were so ridiculously stupid with Roberts.

Re: NRL Player Movements and Rumours 2016

Good signing by the Titans, they're starting to acquire a pretty handy team for 2017, if they can sign a better Fullback suddenly they'll have a team that might be able to challenge for top 4.

1. Zillman
2. Mead
3. Hoffman
4. Hurrell
5. Macdonald
6. Elgey
7. Taylor
8. Shillington
9. Peats
10. James
11. Taia
12. McQueen
13. Bird

Re: NRL Player Movements and Rumours 2016

If Tamou backflips on Penrith to stay at Cowboys. Expect Penrith to make a play at Bird.
Gus named 3 players he was after Tamou, Norman and Bird.

Let's not get excited here, they become a potential top 8 side, top four is still very much a stretch. Let's not forget, Hurrell has never shown an inclination to be anywhere near as good as he could be. He could well become Dave Taylor 2.0 for the Titans.

They're sitting tied 8th at the moment with no Elgey, 1 game of Peats and no Hurrell, I don't see how those 3 players don't make them at the very least a guaranteed top 8 side, pushing top 4 (Pending what happens with the Eels and if the Storm finally decline)

A full season under the belt of Ash Taylor is going to do him the world of good also, he'll come back next year much better.

Sure, but (and I know the table suggests otherwise), the top four are a level above the other teams in the comp at present. I don't see much changing next year unless the Raiders and Eels get their act together.
