They won't, but the back flipping and justification from him and his manager will be fun to watch. "It was a really emotional time......" "It's not his go...." etc etc.....

Or he could go the Mundine style route and say league needs him, he will bring back the fans that were lost when he departed.

NRL have said clubs will have to pay Barba a minimum 600k a season.

South Sydney are on the verge of beating arch rivals Sydney Roosters to sign star Newcastle utility back Dane Gagai.
A Queensland State of Origin representative, Gagai is one of the hottest properties on the open market and has half a dozen clubs on his tail, including premiers Cronulla.
But Souths are desperate for outside backs and word is they are winning the battle for his services.
With Greg Inglis not getting any younger, the Rabbitohs see the talented Gagai as the answer to finding a successor to the champion fullback.
Souths are also struggling for depth in the outside backs and Gagai has the ability to play centre, wing and fullback.
The speedy utility has been a shining light for the struggling Knights for the past couple of seasons and his departure will be a major blow.
The Roosters were favourites to sign Gagai and rarely miss their mark.
But Souths have more free cash under the salary cap and a greater need to sign quality outside backs.
Gagai has an option his way with the Knights for 2018 but it expires at the end of the month so a decision is expected soon.
“We haven’t got him yet - but it’s close,” my Souths source says.

Roosters sign Tedesco and release Evans, no worries from the media. SKD gets done for drugs, no worries replace him with Gagai, nothing to see here, move along.

The Rabbits NEED him, it would be a good fit for them but man I wish he came home.

you forgot: We sign a player to replace a departing player (on similar money i might add) and the we get calls of "oh the injustice ... they must have offered him money outside the cap those cheats ... TPAs, blah blah blah ... they get all the advantages, blah blah blah" etc

Gagai needs to get out of Newcastle. What a mess that club is

Why would Cronk go to Newcastle though? if he's leaving to be closer to his partner, why would he go to a club that means he has a 2 hour commute one way to either get to sydney, or to newcastle?

cronk will retire imo

What's a bet Cronk will end up at the Roosters? You know, there was talk of Mitchell leaving, that should be good enough to free up whatever funds are needed.

I suppose 2 hours is a lot better than 9 hours
Plus the train is 1 hour
Tigers wouldn't be out of place to throw a bid in. They could move Reynolds to hooker to accommodate him

Or they buy somewhere where its only an hour each way. Maybe they'll find an affordable house!

Would he be able to afford Sydney house prices?

Cronk will do wonders for that team. He will teach them how to win

Pretty hard to go from a culture of winning (no matter the cost) to a culture of losing perennially.

Well, one only has to look at the Brisbane Lions to see how hard it is to change a losing culture, it seeps out of every aspect of the club.
