Townsend and Maloney feel too similar to me. Neither are outright creative players in terms of putting players through gaps either etc. and both seem more comfortable at organising and kicking the ball.

Yeah agreed, that's why I'd go with Bird at Five-Eighth, Holmes at Fullback and Maloney at Halfback, seems like a better mix.

Gold Coast hatch plan to sign Israel Folau | NRL | Zero Tackle

Gold Coast are hatching a plan to use the funds and third-party arrangements previously set aside for Manly halfback Daly Cherry-Evans, to bring dual international Israel Folau back to the NRL.

Off-contract at the conclusion of the upcoming Rugby World Cup, it is believed Folau will take-up a lucrative short-term deal with Japanese rugby, whose season concludes in late February.


Since linking with the NSW Waratahs after a short, though highly profitable stint with AFL newcomers the GWS Giants, Folau has established himself as Australian Rugby’s most valuable asset and both the ARU and Waratahs are confident of tabling an offer which will keep him in the 15-man code long-term.


However, after the debacle surrounding Cherry-Evans’s backflip on his deal with the club, coupled with the impending loss of skipper Nate Myles, the Titans appear to be the one club with the salary cap space which, with financial assistance from the NRL’s so-called “war chest”, would allow them to table a bid worth Folau’s consideration.

I know this likely won't happen since Izzy is the best outside back the ARU have and they will throw everything they can at him to keep him around, but man I would love to have him back in league. Where he belongs.

The ARU can keep Harmichael as a gesture of good-will from league.

I think the GWS thing was a too good to turn down option, but if he's going back to the NRL there'll be a few clubs that'll clear the decks for him.

I think he'll somehow end up at the roosters.

Hodkinson is way more composed and controlling. Mullen likes the pretty plays but isn't good at the one percenters. I'd probably prefer Hodkinson and Roberts.

I agree ...

I think Mullen is your off-the-cuff type of player, while Hodkinson is more of your "stick to the game plan" type of player. IMO, they could complement each other extremely well.

Having been recruited from a rival code, Radradra’s contract is exempt from the Eels salary cap, under a rule introduced by the NRL to encourage clubs to expand their recruiting nets beyond the traditional nurseries.

Is this even a thing? So clubs can recruit from Rugby and it doesn't count towards their cap? Surely not.
