NRL Player Movements & Rumours

I don't see how 900k is significant unders. That's about what a player of his calibre would command. He maybe would have got an extra 100k if he went to the open market.

He's not an x-factor type player like Walsh. He gets by on hard work and doing all the little things in his game right.
You're crazy if you don't think a club like the Tigers, Dolphins or Dragons would throw a large some of cash at Edwards. It's rumoured he signed on for 850k over 4 years, that's at least 250k per year less than what he could get at another club.
Carrigan took less than he could have earned elsewhere to stay here.

In regards to Edwards, I put him in a similar boat to Haas. both players could have earned more at other clubs ... nut to get that extra couple of hundred grand, they would have to go to a struggling club, both sacrificed it to stay with premiership contenders
Didn't Carrigan's manager come out during the WC saying he is under paid and needs a raise? Has that happened to anybody at Penrith?

How many clubs would be willing to lock in four years? Keep in mind, he'll be 32 by the end of this contract so realistically his form will likely dip mid-contract.

Maybe a club like Canberra, Canterbury or St George would be willing to offer him over a million but I couldn't see them doing it over the same extended period. So it becomes a question of would you rather earn 3 million in 3 years, or earn it in 4 and have a greater chance of extending your career?

It's not as straight forward as some on here would believe.

Also why would the Tigers (Bula) or the Dolphins (Hammer) want Edwards?

Maybe I'm just too old and just too friggin' naive, but it beggars belief that while watching NRL 360 I hear a whole bunch of babble that rambles on about the poor old Dogs and how bad things are at Belmore these days and finally ends with Dogs alumnus, Braith Anasta, saying that they need to hit the streets, get behind closed doors and get players to break contracts ... spoken like a true player agent ... that group of grey men in the shadows who are screwing up the NRL in the name of their cut of the spoils. Just needed to get that off my liver. Thanks.

Yep it was totally irresponsible for a registered player agent to use his platform to promote illegal breaking of contracts as a viable method for dogs to look at... simply because he's a former dogs player and current fan.

The NRL should be releasing a statement and hammering him about it given Fox are a media partner and Braith is a current player agent.

NRL should be fucking pissed that a statement like that has been made.

Yeah, I mean we all know that it goes on. Him voicing it though and suggesting it as a course of action they need to take just leaves a bad taste.

I never actually realised how shit that show is until this year. I put it on delay these days so I can skip through the bullshit. It ends up bringing a 1hr show down to about 20-30mins.

Or just de register Anasta as a player manager. They should have a code of ethics that they have to abide by to be player managers in the first place.

Same. You never end up watching more than 20 minutes and it avoids TWO freaking Matt Nable narrations now. Which focus group suggested more of that idiot was what fans wanted?

Edwards could have got more on the open market but I don’t think he commands as much as Walsh. Media or not, walsh has something very few players in history have. He could be anything.

I equate the Edwards resigning to our contract for Pat Carrigan.

Yep. He hasnt gone chasing a huge contract as he buys into the take less to keep the squad together mentality. Carrigan so far is the only Broncos in recent times to do that.

Not sure a forward had such a breakout year as Carrigan when he asked for that. Arguably the best performing Bronco along with Oates in 2022. Best player in Origin, and had a huge influence in QLD winning. Played for Australia and a part of winning the world cup. Cant see that much of an issue in a reasonable pay bump at the time for him. Not like he threw his toys out the pram and asked to leave when he didnt get it.

Proof is kind of there. Patty could have got more than the $800-850k a year he signed with us if he went to market.

Your last line is exactly why a struggling club would pay overs. They are the players they lack.

I'm not saying he didn't deserve it. But his manager leaked shit to the media to get more money. This doesn't happen at Penrith.

I'm sure the articles are in the fox sports history if anyone could be bothered to go back and find it. We all know it happened.

now I've officially seen everything. the media actually saying the Storm will battle to keep one of their rookies when Nov 1 comes around

It's not really that strange, he's made his debut played well and is off-contract and would be on a small contract playing for the Falcons last two seasons.

When he signed in 21 playing Flegg it would have been for nothing- bottom of the 30 and has two fullbacks in front of him.

Fa’alogo is off-contract next season and the Storm have their work cut out keeping three fullbacks, including Nick Meaney and Ryan Papenhuyzen, on their books for 2025 and beyond.

The Samoan sensation has 18 tries from 27 career games for feeder club Sunshine Coast and has carved up this season, amassing 108 tackle busts, 13 line breaks, 13 tries and nine try assists for the Falcons.

He also averages 152 running metres from 18 games in the Hostplus Cup and is relishing the mentoring of Papenhuyzen and Storm fullback legend Slater, now a club consultant.

Fa’alogo is a free agent from November 1, opening the door for NRL rivals, but the flying fullback says he is keen to stay loyal to the Storm.

“Paps has been helping me a lot and Billy as well, he comes here once a week,” Fa’alogo said.

Hardly groundbreaking logic.
