NRL Players and family members in hot water

Not just him. But plenty of people are jumping to mental condition. His mental condition is he's just a fucking cockhead.
I cannot handle this 'whitey done us wrong' victim mentality. It's fucking neverending, it's like it won't matter how much time passes, how many generations go by this 'poor me' shit keeps going. I can imagine how frustrating it is for our coppers, every single time these indigenous people have/ cause/ involved in a situation and regular as clockwork, out comes the racism card. Even if they have aboriginal officers they get called 'white' as an insult or uncle tom's.

I think the NRL needs to look at getting some kind of PTSD type counseling for these guys who come out of some of the foster care system. GI, James Roberts, Staggs, Ramien, Segeyaro etc etc. Obviously they've seen some very upsetting stuff as young kids to be put into these homes and brought through to be footy super starsr. From one extreme of society to another. The stuff they have to deal with is obviously driving them to substance abuse etc.

I'm not sure if Barba falls into this category of the foster system.. But someone needs to do something for these kids, preferably before they turn 30 and the brain starts to deteriorate and anxiety starts to take hold.

I used to work in Mackay and I can tell you that Barba’s behaviour is typical of the environment he grew up in.

The broader Barba family are no strangers to these types of issues, however because a subset of them have a significant degree of success in NRL / Q-Cup, the attitude problems have become magnified as they appear to feel they are ‘above’ getting involved with the law, despite the stuff we see in the BWC footage in that article being far from rare...

And the typical response is to attempt to blame the ‘racist’ coppers. Not drink, drugs, mental health, anger management issues or (heaven forbid) themselves for their own behaviour...

It’s all the whallopers fault...

Certainly not just isolated to Mackay or Indigenous people either, it's the same deal in a lot of primarily African American towns in the U.S, they believe that the "racist white cops" are all out to get them.

In some cases, yeah, maybe. But we're talking an astronomically small portion of racially motivated officers in the overall scheme of things. The race card has always been the easiest card to play when it comes to police though, heck, O.J Simpson got away with murder because of it.

Evidence for this claim? How would you know? Sounds like an assumption. U.S and Australia aren't really comparable - U.S has a problem with trigger happy cops.

It's also the same deal as poor white trash in America blaming the jews for everything. Poverty, lack of education.

Not really the thread for it, we might have to move it to another one if we really want to dive in to it.

There's a number of studies around that go a long way to dispelling the notion that race plays a factor in (most) officer involved shootings.

The common statistic thrown around to "prove" that American police are racist is that African Americans only make up 13% of the U.S population, yet make up over 30% of all police shooting fatalities.

What they fail to mention is the enormous discrepancy in the rate at which violent crimes are committed by African Americans comparatively to the other 87% of the population.

Obviously these statistics don't "prove" that racism isn't a factor in the vast majority of cases (to the extent that it alters the way the officers treat perpetrators), but it certainly directly contradicts the mainstream SJW/BLM agenda, which is generally speaking that African Americans are shot at inexplicably higher rates than Caucasians, therefore there must be an enormous amount of racist officers.

If the statistics show anything, it's that African Americans are actually treated with more leniency than Caucasians when it comes to violent crimes. You'll note that more than 11x more African Americans are reported for violent crimes compared to white individuals, yet only 6x more African Americans are arrested for violent crimes.

Just take some solace in the knowledge that a huge and often silent number of us deeply appreciate the police standing between us and anarchy . The police often are placed in terrible situations and the 'right thing to do' is often as much of a problem as doing whatever you feel is correct. I'd be a terrible copper because the moment they called me names or were aggressive they'd be faceplanted and handcuffed. Totally deserve the money they get and probably should be on more.

No, the USA does NOT have a problem with trigger happy police. It has plenty of justifiably nervous and terrified police officers who will shoot first and ask questions secondly. That situation is exactly as it should be considering the circumstances or if you like, the ingredients.

The American cops are first and foremost just people, not a breed apart. They are forced to police a nation of heavily armed, poorly educated and overly entitled people. They are no worse than other nations police and in most cases, far far better. Being a cop is a **** of a job ,generally speaking.

If you become a cop without even understanding what it is you're getting into, frankly you're a moron.

That sums it up really.
It's not necessarily statistics that 'prove' racism. Or that amount of white people shot versus black. Racial motivation is often more subtle and pervasive than that. Anyway, way off topic/can't be stuffed.

Unsure what relevance this has. Also I have no idea why Downey is rolling his eyes. Try using words to express thoughts.

The excuse that "it's a tough job" has been used to handwave shitty attitudes and behaviour by cops since the beat became a thing. I don't buy it and never have. Learn how to be a gracious cop or gtfo and find a job that suits your personality better, like a bouncer.

Former Newcastle Knights player charged over alleged cocaine supply
By Emma Partridge - 2 hours ago
Former Newcastle Knights player Jarrod Mullen has been arrested for allegedly supplying cocaine.

Former Newcastle Knights player Jarrod Mullen has been arrested in Wollongong over his alleged involvement in supplying cocaine.
Mullen, who nearly died from an overdose in December last year, has been charged with allegedly supplying cocaine in the Newcastle area between September and December.
The 31-year-old was arrested this morning and taken to Wollongong Police Station where he spent several hours in custody.

Earlier this year 9News revealed Mullen was at the centre of an investigation looking at a drug ring operating in the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie area.
Detectives attached to Strike Force Castlehead arrested Mullen this morning, making him one of 11 people now charged in relation to the alleged drug syndicate.
"Strike Force Castlestead was formed in September 2018 to investigate and dismantle an alleged drug supply syndicate operating across the Newcastle City and Lake Macquarie Police Districts," a NSW Police statement said earlier this year.
Mullen is serving a four-year ban from the NRL after testing positive for steroids in 2017.
The troubled player was once the face of the Knights on a $1 million-per-year deal, and played one game at halfback for NSW in the State of Origin
In December, Mullen overdosed at a party hosted by the brother of former NRL player Willie Mason.
Les Mason is currently before the courts charged with drug supply offences unrelated to Mullen's overdose.
After he left hospital, Mullen checked into rehab for several weeks before moving from his hometown of Newcastle to Wollongong on the NSW South Coast.

Fresh sex tape rocks Blues' preparations for Origin opener

By Andrew Webster and Christian Nicolussi
June 3, 2019 — 3.27pm

An explicit sex video allegedly involving a NSW player has been leaked as part of a plot to sabotage the Blues on the eve of the State of Origin series.

The video, which has been seen by the Herald, went viral just as Brad Fittler’s team boarded a plane to Brisbane for game one of the series against Queensland at Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday night.

It was also sent to several media outlets and was soon in the hands of the NRL, which immediately launched an investigation.
The alleged player, who the Herald can’t name for legal reasons, is depicted in the video in a sex act with a woman while in the company of another man. A tagline describes the player as a “dirty dawg”.

The video appears to have been filmed several years ago.
Unlike the Dylan Napa and Tyrone May sex tapes that threw the start of the NRL season into disarray, the identity of the men in the video is unclear.
The NRL was waiting to get in contact with the player and Blues management when he landed in Brisbane.
When asked at Brisbane airport about the video and suggestions it involves one of his players, NSW coach Brad Fittler said: "We've been made aware of it and it's not him."
When pressed further and asked about the timing of the release of the video, Fittler reiterated: "It's not him". The player was ushered aside by Blues officials within minutes of landing in Brisbane and declined to speak to the Herald.

Either way, the calculated timing of the video leak has confirmed the fears of many club powerbrokers that the Origin series would be hijacked.
After police charged May with two counts of recording an intimate image without consent and two counts of disseminating an image without consent, the drip feed of explicit videos stopped. May will vigorously defend the charges.
Now, just two days before the game’s showpiece event, it has started again.
Bulldogs prop Napa was fined 10 per cent of his contract after a series of sex videos, in which he regularly referred to himself as “Big Papi”, emerged during the off-season.
NRL Todd Greenberg strongly considered standing him down but instead opted to fine him believing there were a raft of videos involving dozens of players from different clubs in circulation.

Fearing that videos might be leaked on the eve of big matches, such as Origins and the finals series, Greenberg drew a line in the sand and said any lurid video filmed from now on would result in a suspension.
