Wow, Bird and Ferguson are choir boys compared to him...

Mental issues can affect even successful people. This whole "take a spoonful of cement and harden up" attitude when it comes to depression is just fucking stupid, you don't just get over it.

That's true, and I can totally see how being in a high profile career with a short shelf life is going to be terrifying for almost anyone. Completely sympathise with that.

I just don't like to see people use it as an excuse for having been an arsehole. It doesn't matter wtf your issues are, you don't get to bully or harass other people.
If you can't function through your issues without doing that, maybe you should be in a lower stress environment.

Everyone has bad days. It's unfortunate but you can't sink the boot in on everything. How was he to know the story behind the message on the card? Probably thought some fucker was just messing with him.

That may be true but what about the first one that brought it on?

That'd be the "bad day" that everyone has. The later incident was caused by what he thought was some smartarse trying to get a rise out of him.

I don't care how bad your day is... you don't do this to a 10 year old as an average Joe, much less as a revered (by some) sportsman.

The drug cheat will no doubt have some excuse for it.

RULE number one when playing professional sport: always listen to the coach. Well, maybe it’s time to change rule number one to: don’t steal the coach’s car and crash it into a wall.Former NRL players Tim Smith and Kevin Locke, now playing in the English Super League, are alleged to have done just that.It was reported that the duo, along with Reece Lyne, were left out of Wakefield’s 19-man squad to face Halifax on Saturday for disciplinary reasons. Ex-Parramatta Eels halfback Smith was dropped after police charged him with failing to provide a sample for analysis and driving without due care and attention while in Hull during the week. Former Warriors fullback Locke and outside-back Lyne are not facing police action, but were reportedly with Smith at the time. The club released a statement saying: “A full investigation has been launched and the club are co-operating fully with Humberside Police, the RFL and RL Cares in this matter”.However, if certain rumours are true, Wakefield won’t like what that investigation finds.Speaking on Triple M radio in Sydney, broadcaster Dan Ginnane said he received reports that there is more to the players’ drunken joyride than meets the eye. His sources told him the car the trio were driving was allegedly stolen — from none other than their coach Brian Smith — before they crashed it into a wall.“Tim Smith, who plays for Wakefield along with Kevin Locke, got on the drink, stole their coach Brian Smith’s car and put it into a wall — this was the story I was told,” said Ginnane.“Even for rugby league that’s ridiculous.“We thought, ‘It’s clearly a furphy, it’s even too outrageous for rugby league’. But since then it has emerged Tim Smith has been arrested for DUI. and for an incident — presumably an accident.“Can you imagine if this is true, that two or three players have stolen the coach’s car and put it into a wall?”Rugby league has an unfortunate reputation when it comes to players’ off-field behaviour. There was Todd Carney urinating in his own mouth, Nate Myles defecating in a hotel stairwell and Joel Monaghan simulating a sex act with a dog — to name just a few. While unproven allegations at this point, if the claim against the Wakefield players is true, it’s hard to see anyone topping such an act of stupidity — in 2015 at least — it is rugby league after all.A gun playmaker at his best and former NRL Rookie of the Year, Smith’s NRL career was derailed by a series of off-field incidents. There were accusations of public violence in 2005 and public drunkenness in 2007, leading to his suspension by the Eels. He went to a rehabilitation clinic and in early 2008 revealed he suffered from bipolar disorder. He signed with Wigan later that year before returning to Australia to play for the Broncos in 2010, but never rediscovered his best form.He went to Wakefield in 2012 and has remained in the Super League.

Suggest just reading from the link, having to use a proxy site just to view the website these days(dunno why, sometimes it works most times it doesn't) can make posting weird as a result. Had some shockers over the years, this is up there.

I met Brian Smith once.

Seemed like a nice guy, also seemed like if you stole and crashed his car, he would absolutely **** you up.

Good luck Locke and Smithy.

Not sure if this really belongs in this thread, but reading between the lines of David Smith's comments, it would appear the boys may be in a bit of strife beyond their health concerns. Albeit serious, their condition is not life threatening and they are both stable.

Two Souths Players Rushed To Hospital

Allergic reaction my ass..

This

What are the odds that both players had Allergic reactions to medication at the exact same time at the exact same place at 3am

That is one hell of a coincidence.
